what gets me is, if you go to the members section, and look through how many posts people have made, from page 194 to page 319 lists all the members who've never made a single post.... thats a heck of a lot of members. Why the hell register?? and never post ??

another thing is, if you go back about 10- 20 pages from page 194 all these members have only made 1 post... no doubt they were all pimping sites and stuff.

i must admit ... the Noob bashing may be daunting to some ..
A lot of people just dont have the constitution or self confidence to deal..especial some younger folks who may be having a bit of a shit-life crisis and came to horror who love the genre thinking it would be a fun 'safe' place to hang with kindred spirits.

I know a lot is in good fun but some folks show far more zeal and energy doing that than in any other forum - and 'dont take things seriously' wont cut it with a lot of people.

So we might be losing the odd person who may develop into a respected contributer ..

Personally i never got bashed (until Shanks reads this :) )

And even if things get beyond the welcoming stage .. small mistakes are handed with a sledgehammer - which i'm sure drives off a bunch more.

I know its a major souce of kicks for a lot of people and no doubt there is a percentage of people that warrent every grain of shit we get - but I'd hate to think we were driving out fresh meat with potential since the gene pool here is getting pretty thin.
- which shows by the low participation in the movie, etc, threads.

The General forums are fun ...but I really enjoy the film talk too .. love to see more of it !

Can agree with some of what you say, but In all fairness to the regulars who flame, If the n00bs cant hack it, and are affected that much, that they fail to see the funny side of it, then how the heck can they handle proper horror films. ... we want to hear about decent horror, not kid crap like chucky etc, so the flames are in 'tune' with the genre of the Films that gets talked about.

Also, if a good majority of the ones who dont post again, are young then they probably aint really old enough, to be viewing most of the content that gets posted and talked about on these forums.

yeah, i realized these points going into my post ... i was most probably speaking for a small minority.
I agree that more knowledgable members make for a more interesting read ..

But one thing .. there is a massive difference between hacking watching a horror film in the safety of your own film - and being rediculed by your peers ...
Its far easier to watch the films ...

again - i'm not talking about the good natured kicks in the balls .. but the ones that drip venom ... there is a lot of malice present at times ... I try to save that for special occasions my self !

I think it would be far more disturbing to not get flamed......I think I got flamed when I first started here, but hey, it comes with the territory...Noobs Get flamed...Get over it....I found it rather funny....How can people you don't know talking shit about you bother you to the point of hiding in a virtual hole?

i havent posted much, but i enjoyed the warm noob welcome...i think if anyone gets that turned away by harmless bashing, they have serious emotional insecurity issues.

Newbs that get bashed usually bring it upon themselves... The best way to avoid it is to steer clear of the stupid 'Hi! I'm new here!' threads. That's just asking to get flamed. Another good measure a newb could take to avoid flammage would be to not make any retarded posts in their first week.

That is all the advice I have for the newbs. If they can't follow it... Well, I guess they'll probably get flamed.

Yeah, new members usually post stupid shit. Like asking a question about a popular movie that has only been asked 100 times. They need to use the SEARCH funtion.

well, i'm really not here to make a judgement on anything other than a possible reason why there are 4000 members and about 12 people who post regularily.

Its true that you get schemers and people whoring their own sites .. then buggering off immediately.

Too bad they couldnt be flagged and deleted after 30 days or something.

the freddy incident reminds me of a thread i'd posted earlier
regarding censorship "censorship sucks".

In there I'd metioned that in the UK, in 1993 a boy (Jamie Bulger)was killed by two other boys. The press had a field day saying it was horror films to blame. Then subsequently banned certain films which where scheduled to be shown on the terrestrial tv channels

A similar incident happened this year when again a boy was killed by supposedlly acting out a scene from a game "manhunt".

In both cases the verdict was not proven. it could not be determined whether films or games was the reason for the crime.

Many high street stores took the game off the shelves, while others had a strict age guideline for sales, which as far as Im aware Manhunt over here is rated as an 18, as is the new GTA game.

But some chidren have managed to see/play the game still, obviously parental supervisionshprs retail code is sadly lacking.

Re- horror films in general again from my thread; the majority of people realise that horror, or other such fantasy films are just that; forms of fantasy entertainment where at the end of the day, you can switch off if it's too scary or disturbing/simply not buy or rent it in the first place.

to simply blame horror and games for the violence is just a poor excuse and perhaps we should look at ourselves first.

sorry for the party political brodcast

but, im just a noob and proud of it, hey remember both jason and michael myers where only kids when the fun began and now movie world icons (sad but true *refers to previous thread*).

here's my contribution to the "members"

and says his prayers by night
will become a noob,
when the nooby plant blooms,
or when he joins this site!':p

Reminds me of Bowling for Columbine

He was interviewing Marylin Manson, who was a favourite artist of the boys who commited the shootings. Partially, their violent behavior was b;lamed on him, of course. But Manson had a great counter point. More bombs were dropped in Kosovo the morning of the shootings then any other time during the war. Now, think for a sec. Everything gets blamed on Horror movies, violent video games, and rock music, when the governement contributes most of the violence in the world. Can you say.... WTF?

Just like the baddies we love so much .. you shoot 'em, stab 'em, drown 'em, blow 'em up, set 'em on fire, crush, mangle, melt, slice, dice, julianne, freeze dry, encase in cement, send them to another space, time, and dimension ...
and they just keep on coming back for more.
