I consider myself an agnostic, who acknowledges the idea that a god can exist but also acknowledges the fact that we will never have any proof....but lately i have felt stomped down and oppressed by the overwhelming white christian majority around me......
Just want to know what the stats are of horror...

i say look at a newspaper or the TV ... thats daily proof enough for me that there is no such thing.
And i know all the arguments because i was a blind faith christian as a child ..

yeah we get them in Toronto too .. they get a dentist to pop in a couple of fangs, sleep in the day and club all night listening to bauhaus etc ... then one day they walk in front of a car because they're convinced it wont hurt them.
(i'm not making this up)
Then again there are people who think they are jesus, napoleon and marilyn monroe ...
the imagination is a wonderful thing ... till it buys you a few years vacation in a padded hotel room.

Wouldn't we have to probably all be agnostic in a way? No one knows. Some people have faith that God exists. Others believe he doesn't. Yet other worship Allah or The Devil. But no one really knows...
Just like no one can say for sure what happens when you die. The people with near death experiences probably catch a brief glimpse, but no one is certain how it is, once it's final.
These are the questions that can keep anyone up scratching their head at night. Or at least me....;)
urgeok
11-04-2004, 08:06 AM
i've never had any faith in that near death experience deal .. who knows whats being concocted in the brain when its running out of oxygen (which is the solitary cause of death)
there could be dreams, memories, chemical fireworks, anything !
we all want to believe in something else .. unless you can come to grips with the fact that here and now is all its gonna be and your only crack at immortality is the memories you leave behind in others - especially your children.
Which is reason enough for me to strive to be a decent person ..
i dont need the fear of some eternal damnation to keep me in line.

I told Jonathan (The Vampire Freak in the picture back there) that he can't be a Vampire because he isn't immortal.....He said, "Christians aren't immortal either, yet their God is supposed to be"...Just something to ponder, I suppose...

Ok one more reason for everyone to hate me. Yes I am a Christian. I think that even if the proof was in there face alot of people still would not belive. as far as why do the bad things happen I think it's called what goes around comes around!!
I believe there must be a GOD. How else could you explain the growth of rice, hops and barley.

well, its a big world and hundreds of different religions .. and within each religion there are dozens of sects/factions ...
hell there isnt 2 people who believe in exactly the same thing ..

Well you also have to consider the source, horror movies arent exactly the average christians forte...
Also, the average age here is much younger than say 18 or so....i usually find that christianity finds alot more supporters the older the age group...

oddly enough though i know a few who have voted are near 30 or older.
Myself being one of them ...
I think hardliners would avoid horror because of the very nature of the genre but the average 'i believe but only go to church on xmas' types watch horror .. I hear a lot from these folks that they are only frightened by the Exorcist - satan type horrors because they think they are more real.
But they still seem to like them in a rollercoaster sort of way...

even as a little kid, religion just didnt make sense to me.
