I've actually BEEN to hanging rock...aparently, the film was based on a true story, and there are still investigations happening about the incident.

Uh, as for a movie...."Lady In Red"?

Also The Other.........1972 or 1973 I think. Great movie! Never will see that again either I guess unless I can find it on Ebay.

Born Losers = Billy Jack vs. Bikers

from what I remember, it's not a pretentious hippy movie like Billy Jack was

btw, I listened to the commentary track for Billy Jack, and Tom Laughlin is REALLY full of himself. I had to turn the movie off and go punch a kitten to get all the bullshit out of my system

Well he was really popular back then......got to his head I guess.
Do you personally like these movies? I liked the message...........however contradictory.......but the acting was beyond horrible, and of course they were very preachy. The second with the quest was cool though......in a surreal way

The STE
11-05-2004, 07:23 PM
yeah, but the commentary had to have been fairly recent, there weren't any DVD's back then. And this wasn't "yeah, this was an important movie" type full of himself. This was "I'm so brilliant I must recieve fellatio from blind Tibetan monks with no feet" type full of himself.

And I thought the Billy Jack character was interesting in that he was a fairly nice, somewhat softspoken loner type who could pretty much tolerate people but then someone would do something stupid and he'd snap and beat the everloving be-Jebus out of them. But they just needed a better (nay, GOOD) movie for him.

Well that was my opinion of it too and I am a Buddhist. I guess he had no idea that his acting ability sucked........and that his fighting style was his claim to fame.

The character was kind of cool though..........good classic cult film anyway.

One time a seven year old told me he saw Event Horizon.........I have even heard kids say they saw movies even more inappropriate for their age.

meh, I started on Halloween when I was five and then, given my lack of funding, moved on to whatever I could find locally...which, given the local rental outlet with the obscure stuff, was quite a bit. I saw Zombi 2 (or Zombie, whichever) around 8ish, Demons around the same time frame. I say let 'em watch what they want as long as they're willing to deal with it. Hell, I saw Evil Toons (just this side of softcore porn) when I was maybe 10 and I delt.

a.k.a. Beware Children At Play?

This has been released through Troma, and is their usual brand of ketchupy trash but with some suprisingly frank violence on kids (impaled and blasted with various implements and weapons) - though of course the homicidal little gits deserve it in this movie.

Fantastic tagline in the trailer: "Now, the only way to discipline your children... is with a twelve-gauge shotgun!".

It was about like a chemical spill and some guy being turned into a snowman who murdered everyone he saw pretty much. There was one girl who got killed in her bath and the some person got strangled with Christmas lights. I watched pretty much the whole movie, I just don't really remember it because it was a long time ago. The Lion King? I'm guessing that a few people have seen that. The desperate ones I'm sure. I saw Silent Scream in like 80 or 81 at our local tiny theatre, (the Chateau) on opening night, the place was packed. There was a lady in front of us who in one scene, threw her mega-bucket of popcorn into the air covering half of the seats. I also remember seeing Saturday the 14th there around that same time.

Sadly, the Chateau has gone the way of many small theatres, closed sold to the neighboring bank and converted into offices. A newer 2-screen theatre close to campus replaced it though.

Did it star Linda Blair? I don't think I have. There is a film I remember seeing which had Darrin McGavin, (Nightstalker) with Hell Night in the title.

particularily the two assholes sitting on their bikes discussing jailbait.

man the dialogue just rolled off their tongues didnt it ?

I can appreciate a couple of friends and family puttin a little film together for fun .. but why does the crap get released ?
I've seen so much of this backyard garbage it's making me homicidal ... its like selling lies.
It's not like you can tell if the product is good or not before getting it home ..

the 'so funny it's bad' thing has worn too thin for me ..
it only washes when its circa pre-video. People didnt commit to films then knowing it would be shit but they could make a few bucks on rental sales if the cover was intriguing enough.
Those were the funny-bad ones ...

I'd definately put it on the good side of B movies. Some of the dialogue is horrible, but all in all I think it's an enjoyable movie (the first half kind of sucks...)

Atleast when you put it up against movies like Rabid Grannies and Redneck Zombies.

I know redneck zombies is a "classic", but I have to say it's horrible. Everything about the movie is bad and that's really the only redeeming quality about the movie. The fact that the movie is so poorly filmed/acted is what makes some parts funnier than they should be. :p

Suburbia. Not the 90s one with Giovanni Ribisi, Steve Zahn, and Parker Posey either. I'm talking about the early 80s one with a young Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) about a group of teenage homeless punk rockers that start fights against the cops.

Kick ass movie.

Awesome flick!

I got a few to throw out there:

Zombieggedon- Parts were filmed less than 15 miles from my house. This flick is a real shitter. I bought it(stoopid me) and had to watch it in installments of about 20 minutes. 20 at a time was all I could take.

Monsturd- The title pretty sums up this shitfest.

Special Dead- The idea was not executed very well, this movie sucked.

Nosferatu ? (1929)
It's a classic vampire flick from the late 1920's (Obviously).
I enjoyed it (and I'm not really into vampie flicks at all!)

Here is another one, Nattens Engel (Angel of the Night) This is a Danish vampire movie from 1998, it is about a girl who inherits an old mansion and she and her friends accidentally releases a vampire. The film is dark and Gothic and have nice atmosphere, however it is also somewhat confusing. I would rate this film as a rather average vampire flick. One interesting note about the film is that when Rebecca the man character releases the vampire she do a ritual where she chants the names of the seven Camarilla clans from the RPG game Vampire the Masquerade, I see no credit given to White Wolf the creators of VtM anywhere in the movie credits though.

And another, Den Brysomme Mannen (The Bothersome Man) I do not know if this Norwegian film really is horror, but it do leave the viewer uncomfortable and it certainly have horror elements. The movie is about a man who arrives in a strange town, he is presented with a job, a apartment and even a beautiful wife, on the surface everything is perfect, but soon the main character notices that something is wrong, none of the inhabitants of the little town seam to feel any real emotion, food tastes bland, and there are strange overseers who make sure everything run smoothly. Den Brysomme Mannen is a strange and atmospheric film and at times it is unnerving even if no one dies and none murders anyone. I think the movie is very good.

What did you think of Troll Hunter? Personally I loved it but I was wondering how it was regarded in countries where this was part of their mythology.

*If you're not Ignore this :-)

I am Norwegian. I really liked The Troll Hunter, among other things because it is rather different, it is like Blair Witch Projects meets Norse Mythology. It is nice to see a movie with trolls, as in the trolls that where part of Norwegian mythology, not little gremlins or Lord of the Rings trolls. Norway have a rich folklore and while this movie do twist and turn that folklore around quite a bit to try to form some sort of natural explanation for the trolls and so on it is still nice to see actual trolls used in film. I am also impressed by the special effects, for a small Norwegian movie production company that is really impressive. The acting is a bit lacking at times but the dialog are very fun.

Another reason why this movie resonates with me is that I live in Bergen, that is not that far from Hardanger, my hubby have family there, now for some time now our politicians want to put up high power cables in Hardanger, most of us from this part of the country however do not want that, those cables really messed up the nature at Dovre and we do not want it here, it is fun that the movie addresses this.

One more point before I end this post. You have probably heard the melody In The Hall Of The Mountain King, well there is a reason why that is on the soundtrack for this movie. In Norwegian that melody is called Dovregubbens Hall (The Hall of the Dovre man) That being said the mythology have shiften a bit and trolls and hulder have been mixed together, originally in Norwegian folklore Dovregubben was not a troll, he was king to the hulder. Now hulder in Norwegian folklore are creatures that look like human beings but they are active at night and sleep during the day and they have a cow's tail, they have supernatural abilities and are more like elves really than trolls.

I just have to go back and make a little correction to what I have said earlier, the play, as in Per Gynt that the In the Hall of the Mountain king was made for (Or rather it was made for something else but since it fit so well it was used for the play.) they do use the name troll, however the Old man of the Dovre, and his daughter clearly are hulder not trolls and in folklore there are a hunder king in Dovre named Dovregubben.

Thar being said the play Per Gynt make a good read and if you like fantasy it might be right up your ally.

Okey but for some more obscure movies:

Blindpassasjeren (Translation: The Stowaway) This is a three part Norwegian TV miniseries. It is about the crew of a spaceship returning home to Earth after their mission have ended. The crew have just come out of a limited form of stasis and as they go to eat breakfast they discover to their horror human remains in their waste disposal. Now the remains is impossible to identify but since all the crew is present and accounted for that means one of them is not who or what he or she claims to be. The series is more science fiction then horror, but it do have a certain creepy atmosphere.

Good to see mentions for silent scream if you like that you would also like Curtains Girl School Screamers, sweet 16 and Scream and scream again. Also I've seen Twins Of Evil-like that try Curse Of The Crimson Altar. Cthulhu (2007) Don't Look In THe Basement (diabolically bad though I liked the Sarge charcter)Visiting Hours, Unhinged, Cool Air, Shogun Assassin, The Slayer, Mulberry Street, Return To Horror High, The Dunwich Horror, The Brotherhood 2 (though avoid The Brotherhood 3 totally pointless film), Tomb Of Ligeia, Dream within a dream, The Lost Continent, Toxic Zombies (potheads get munchies eat everyone) Diabolik.

Has anyone seen Seven Deaths In The Cats Eye, All The Colours Of The Dark, Twice Told Tales, Matango, Delirium, Night School aka Terror Eyes, Nightmare Maker, The Case Of The Scorpions Tail, Blood Rites, The Lighthouse, The Shuttered Room or Plague Of The Zombies-I'm dying to see all these on my wishlist

The Killer Eye. This movie is about a mad scientist who creates a microscope which allows someone to glance into another dimension, unfortunately when he pays a homeless man to be his test subject the eye the boy looks into the microscope with grow into a huge floating monstrosity which then go on to suck the electricity out of people's brains. This movie is horrible, but it is also good, cheesy fun.

The Colours Of The Dark - I presume you mean 'Colour from the Dark' - pretty solid version of the Colour out of space. I liked despite its flaws..

Twice Told Tales - Pretty decent Anthogy film with Vinnie price..,

The Shuttered Room - I liked this..

Plague Of The Zombies - Not one of my fav hammer films but the dead dream sequence is great..

Oops I've already seen The Case Of The Scorpions Tail I shouldn't have included that.

Yes I meant the recent film version of Lovecrafts "Colour Out Of Space" I've heard mixed reviews but I'll get it I think. Yeah I'll see The Shuttered room as well it must be worth a look.

I just found out that that Blinkbox has "The Lighthouse" I'll watch that once I can face the annoying adverts you can't skip that they play. Anyone seen Summer Scars which they also have. I hope its not as bad as Mean Creek was.

Like most adaptations of Lovecraft, I expect nothing going into. 'Colour from the Dark' was terrible and for the most part I enjoyed it. The Irish actor in it is dreadful though. That been said I liked The Curse alot too.

The Ten Lives Of Titanic The Cat

This is a Scandinavian children's ghost movie. It is about a ghost cat which helps some children with preventing a new ship from going down just like the Titanic which killed the ghost cat many decades ago. The movie is made for children, but I found it to be a fun ghost movie.

My choice is Kiss Of The Tarantula (1976)

A very non thrilling film with mostly unknown actors. The lead actress Suzanna Ling made only this one film and retired!

The only thing creepy about this film was the old mortuary and some spider scenes.

Hydra, this is a giant monster movie. Now this film have allot going on, there is a research team being attacked by the monster, a plot with a few unsavory types who have kidnapped a group of people and is putting them on a remote island (the one with the Hydra on it off course.) to let rich men who have paid for the pleasure hunt them down and kill them. There is allot going on however the movie pulls this together nicely.

I also like the creature, they have not tried to make up some natural explanation, mutation, nuclear waste or anything, the monster is exactly what it sounds like a Hydra.

Now this is a indie film so it do not have the special effects budget of a big Hollywood production but all in all this is a rather good movie. I really liked it.

Here's one the alternative version of "Exorcist:The Beginning" there was a different release of the mainstream one that is extremely rare but apparently worth it. Unfortunately what I know about it is limited to what has been said on IMDB but they hugely prefer this take to the much more readily seen release-if anyone has seen it post here:)
