I just read about a possible Amityville remake. Hope they quicken up the pace just a tad. This one used to scare me so hopefully it'll still be creepy.

If they do make a remake it better be good. because if it isn't I'll go insane. The first one scared me senseless. Well okay, not senseless but it did scare me.

The Sci-fi Channel had a mini-marathon of Amityville movies today. The original was better than I remember. I would like to see an update.

I do that same thing with a lot of the movies I own. It's so rare that they come on tv, you just have to sit down and watch them.

i'd watch the movies that i own except for the fact that half the time they're dubbed over terribly...but sometimes they're good for a good laugh

Yeah i think it would be great if they updated it, as long as they kept to the original story line. Just a bit more horror and what not,
I think the first one was excellent. shared the pants off of me.
Well thats the reason igave the cops for having no pants on.
pity i couldn't think of a reason why i was standing out side my best freinds mothers bedroom window at the time though.

In production? BUT I WANT IT NOW!

It better not be a crappy remake. The original is pretty good, considering how old it is.

Yeah, Amityville was pretty scary. The second one got to me the most though. Although the acting was rather cheesy in certain parts, the scene where the possesed dude is going through the house shooting all of his family members was very disturbing and gave me the creeps. Definatly one of the few movies which still scares me. Regarding the remake of the original, is there no movie that isn't being remade? More often than not, they end up being crap.

Depends who does the remake, some are ace, like DOTD was the best movie I've seen this year.

But admittedly some are crap. It also depends on whether you've even seen the original, if you haven't you won't even notice the annoying things they do to the remake.

I disagree TCM was a good remake and so was the Dawn Of the Dead remake. I am hoping the Hills Have Eyes remake is gonna kick ass to because I love the original.

I heard that the TCM remake was shit. Somebody said it didn't even have the "hitchhiker" scene in it. LAME! Nothing will ever replace the original. I'm sick of fucking remakes. Now they have remade "The Stepford Wives." WTF? Good god, what's next?

Actually I liked the TCM remake, sure it wasn't as good as the original, but it had some intense parts.

I bet if they made a stepfather remake you would be all over it like flies on shit.

No! I hate remakes, and the mentaly impoverished dipshits who make them. I think the whole thing has gotten out of hand. there are too many good movies being redone by people who lack imagination and original storyline ideas.

I'm curious about everyone's thoughts on the Amityville Horror remake being released next spring...Are you looking forward to it? Do you think it's a bad idea? Will the fact that the story is now widely regarded as a hoax affect your decision to see the it?

I guess I have mixed feelings about an Amityville remake. I think it'll be difficult to top the atmosphere created by the exterior shots of the house and the music from the original. Other than that, though, I never thought it was a really good film. I actually liked the first sequel more than the original. Regardless of whether it's a true story or not, I hope the remake more closely follows the events of the book (i.e. the hooded figure pointing at George as the family is trying to escape, crucifixes found hanging upside down, Jodie's hoofprints in the snow) which scared the crap out of me when it was first published.

Here's a link to a pic of the house being used in the remake:

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jfray...akiii/my_photos

I think the larger size and shape of the house in the original and the more prominant, eye-like windows of that house made it more sinister looking than this new one. Agree? Disagree?

one of the best haunted house movies if not the best ever it should not be remade

toolboxkiller
08-23-2004, 03:09 PM
i really don't like the idea, a movie like this should never be remade, it was done the first time and thats it, plus the original sucked ass, so the remake is nothing but a waste of actors, directors, producers, cameramen ect.

I disagree. I think it was one of the better horror movies. I know it is largely agreed that it was a hoax but there was still some weird stuff there. I will definitely see the remake

i'm digging it soley on the fact that it's being flimed in my home town...

other then that i think the orignal is fine, will cehck out the remake for above stated reason

In my opinion remakes are taking the place of pure creativity & originality. I've been waiting for years for a good horror movie to come out that wasn't a remake or a sequel. At the same time, since it seems to me that no one is concerned with being seriously fresh & new, re-makes of older top-rated horrors i guess are the temporary answer. I personally loved 13 ghosts, texas chainsaw, & that movie about the house that vincent price was originally in (forgot sorry). But really... nothing new. Other hand... there's no replacing the true gritty visuals, acting or mood of a classic. Anyone else feelin' me?

in a way im against remakes, but on the other hand i like to see what the directors do with it and how they either screwed it up, or possibly even made some things better. not that im saying that the original was bad, cause it was really good. im waiting for the pet semetary remake.

somebody knows about that movie? I know, that is coming... I saw a few photos on net and read some info, it looks, that this movie will be very cool and hot. I think absolutely one from the best made in new times (after 1990). I think it will be one of my favourite.

anbd other problem: the best horror movies were made in the past, now, in new times, in theese days, nobody can create really cool horror (except wrong turn)... all new scary horror movies are just remake/"stolen movies": dawn of the dead, texas chainsaw massacre, the exorcist, amityville horror...

I haven't. I hadn't heard good things about it. But maybe now I'll go out and watch it.

The first one was always weird to me, that the dad just went nutso and they never tried to leave or anything. How do they handle that in this one? Aside from the scariness--which is great--does the story work well?

Some people don't care for movie remakes, I don't mind them at all.
Most of the time they suck but I still give them a chance.

Same here...It isn't like a remake is trying to REPLACE the original...You don't have to choose one or the other.....We just end up getting 2 movies instead of 1, which is fine with me...If I really like a movie, I'm happy with as much of it as I can get :)

When i picked up this movie, I had my doubts about it. First, I re-watched the original and it was good but I found it to be slow at times.

I expected this movie to follow the original and it didnt which was a good thing. I kept making comparisons to the original and then I just stopped and enjoyed this re-make. This re-make added a lot of nice additions to the original such as more of an explanation to why... and of course, the special effects exceeded 1976 movie and even today's special effects. This movie had a lot of pop outs as well which were pretty good. Ryan Reynolds did a good acting job as well. Not the typical jokester character that he usually plays. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Dont compare every little part to the original but just enjoy it for a nice fun horror movie.
