Bree and I went to the Humane society this weekend looking for a dog. We had a german shapard in mind (named Ellie), she was 6 and had led a pretty rough life. Well, shortly after we got there, it turned out an old couple had already called to see her, and they adopted her on the spot (she was a good dog. nice people got her though)
Anyway, we looked at the dogs again, and their was one that had stared at us with those "pet me" eyes that dogs do so well. he was a border collie mix named Walter, here's his pic from the local hs site:

We were told there was another family that was thinking of adopting him, but they needed to see if he got along with their dogs okay. we are hoping he doesnt. he is 10 months old, fixed, and already knows "sit". he listens well, and i had an instant bond with him. it will kill me if the other people adopt him... Our application is pending, and we are REALLY hoping we luck out on this one...

1)the dog could get hurt if it doesn't get along but i still hope you get it
2)my black lab is smart :D she knew "sit" "stay" "shake" and my mom had taught her something she had her old dog do which was wave her paw at you which meant "please" by 10 months

Good luck Vod.
Quick word of advice though. Don't let the dogs fool you. Me and my ex went to pick out a dog at a kennel. We picked the ONLY dog in the place that wasn't barking it's head off, or jumping around like a maniac...it just sat there, flashing those cute; bright eyes.
THEN, we get it home and it was like..."HAHAHA! Mother fuckers...I am your worst nightmare!"
From then on...it was the worst behaved dog I ever had...lol.
On the other hand...we also ended up getting a Rottie from a rescue, who had been mistreated by the previous owner...and that was THE best dog ever...hands-down.
I wish you guys luck!

I'm not too worried about him being a little shit, he was described as being a "handful", and he was, but he didnt act like anything other than a puppy.

vodstok, when you go to pick out a dog, especially if its a puppy, walk up to the fence and clap your hands, make cute noises, etc... then look at the dogs. the one that doesnt come to you,or even look at you is the one you usually want. it is usually the bottom dog on the "totem pole", and if you take it home and show it attention, it is usually a good, well behaved dog.

Good luck Vod.
I've always had a dog. They make great companions. You just gotta watch what they get into.

OMG that is funny!!!!
I have 5 dogs, and they can be a lot of fun. The best dog I've ever had is a mutt, and I wouldn't trade him for anything. If they will roll over and let you pet their belly's that means their submissive, and make good pets. He's still a pup, so being cramped up in that cage probably makes him a little excited. Good luck.
