Why does Brass Stink

no you pervs I ant talking about the brass down the road, she's a cheap whore. :D

I'm on about Brass as in the metal kind. Why, when ever you've touched some your fingers smell of that nasty metaly smell. I've got some brass door handles on some cupbards. If you smell the handles they dont really stink, it's the stink on your fingers I dont get. Why does it stink on skin?

It gets like a phobia sometimes and I have to wash my hand after I've opened the cupboard.

I imagine impurities in your skin react to the metal, and impurities on it. I would imagine the metal oxidizes over time, making a thin layer of corrosion on the outside.

but even with just touching brass for a couple of seconds. maybe sweat makes it stink, but my hands aint that damp

i would be willing to be that it is the metal itself. all metal oxidizes to some extent. Brass is copper and nickle, i think.....cant recall, but i do know copper is in it and copper has its own smell too.

it is the copper in brass that makes it stink......copper is very easily oxidized by the acidity of sweat on you fingers .......so when you touch the brass it puts the corrosion onto your skin which smells metalic.........:cool: :cool:

i used to put invisible finger nail polish around my finger so it didnt stink and make that nasty line

two of the cheapest, easiest ways to shine brass.

1. toothpaste on a dry or barely damp rag.

2. comet or cleansing powder on a dry rag.

in both cases, take rag and scrub on brass fixture. the corrosion will dissapear quickly. then wipe clean with another rag. erasers work well also.

hah..... the only reason i know that is because the prison i used to work in had many brass doorhandles, and the warden was too cheap to buy brass cleaner. so we had the inmates experiment with different stuff until they found something that worked.
