Is the general derision of Halloween 3: Season of the Witch down to it being a bad horror movie, or because it does not feature the unstoppable killer Michael Myers, I wonder?
The Invasion of the Body Snatchers-style conspiracy theme, the sharp-suited corporate robots, "8 more days 'till Halloween!" and the diabolical engines at work in those masks that turn kids' heads into masses of ghastly writhing insects all work well and make this a memorable horror film indeed.
Cannot help thinking it would be better appreciated under an entirely different title, but you can't blame producer John Carpenter for attempting to divert the Halloween series away from endless resurrections of his once scary bogey man.

Yes it is an obvious vote pattern because as said before Halloween 1 was and possibly still is the best Horror movie to me it is at least :D they were all good except for 3 but everyone knows that :D it might have been a good movie if they didnt shove it in the Halloween megaverse but that was there own fault nice poll by the way :D see y'all

So if you begin watching Halloween 3 for the first time after the start credits, it can be a good film?
Are horror icons like Myers really that essential to today's audience? Or is it just considered impudent of a director/producer to release a different film under the banner of an established series?
Perhaps some viewers of Halloween 3 feel cheated that the movie is not what they expected...
Fortunately they changed the name of Zombi 2 in some territories to Zombie Flesh Eaters (originally touted as a "sequel" to Romero's Dawn of the Dead/a.k.a. Zombi) or that might have been shit, too.
Seen Demons 3: The Ogre? Now there is a good example of a straightforward cash in on a respected name - the producers' idea not Lamberto Bava's - with a bland and forgettable movie, save for nice cinematography and score.

Perhaps if it was called simply, Season of the Witch, the reponse may have been different. When you call it Halloween 3, I think people expect it to be related in some way to the first two.
BTW, the first Halloween is my favorite.
