True, I don't understand it either. 28 Days Later was great, and so was The Blair Witch Project ... both of these I have defended time and again on this site. I think what they both have in common that turns off a lot of horror fans is the fact that neither one splash gore all over the screen on a consistent basis. This pretty much goes to show you why horror fans get a bad rap, for the most part.

exactamundo. I had to concede to some poeple about not liking the new Dawn of the Dead, they actually listed legitimate reasons they didnt like it, and didnt just say "it sucked". I dont agree with them (i liked it a lot).
One of the things that stuck to me with 28 days later was the use of digital film. the sequences in the rain are almost dreamlike because of the way the water falls. i think it adds quite a bit to the movie.

Bah... You just wanted to see the Coreys naked... admit it.....:D
Back on Dungeons and Dragons... Being the nerd that i am, i had extremely high hopes for this movie. I can say the same about Spawn. Both had limitless potential that was thourough scat upon by no-talent dipshits who couldnt tell a story at gunpoint.
Spawn at least had some okay effects, but D&D came out later, and had WORSE effects...
And then there was the over-dramatic, almost comical "NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!OOOOOOOOO!!!!!!OOOOOOOO!!!!!" when "Snails" was killed... Luke Skywalker did the long "No!" just fine, that little , meekrab, just sucked. And then there was the end. THE FUCKING END..... They all turn into little firecrackers and fly into the sky... WHY?! No fucking clue. they just did. it was "magical" apparently.
Sigh. Fat elves. An unexplained Black elf (kristin wilson... used to host Stand up Stand up on comedy central back in the day...stupid bitch. cant act, cant tell a joke). A fucking dwarf that is almost as tall as Marlon Wayans.
The fucking movie had Thora Birch and Jeremy Irons, and THEY sucked.... The only halfway decent effect in the movie was the beholder that floats by at one point, but 3 secionds of cool special effects cant save a movie that looks like whale shit smeared on celluloid.
Shit, i may just do a full review in the movie section... i got myself worked up now....

and yet, if thay film it, we will watch it. thats the great thing about horror. vodstok said that movies like this is why he has no faith, and yet its these bad movies that get us through the bad times. they give us reason to hold out for a little while longer,as well as something to talkabout. we will continue to watch them untill we find one that is good, almost like the religious fanatics watch the sky, waiting for the second coming. i for one say yes, there are a lot of bad movies, but bring them on, i'll watch them all. and maybe one day, there will be a good one.

... Y'know I'm a D&D nerd also ... And I rather enjoyed the movie Dungeons and Dragons.. Of course before I saw it, I went into it knowing it wouldn't be the best movie I've ever seen, and I didn't expect too much .. It's an alright movie. It's one of those I put in for background noise when I am cleaning or online ...
I love House of a 1000 Corpses also... Love, love, love, can't get enough ..
I haven't seen the TCM remake.. too afraid... Because I love the original.. That's one of the greatest movies of all time.
As far as gore in horror.. I don't think it always needs to be there.. I enjoy a really good psycological thriller as well as gore.

Well, "old" in this sense means "experience with refined taste." Granted, we hate the crap more than we used to ... but at least we retain the dignity of saying "I hated that fucking movie." It's only the young and the stupid who have to explain saying things like "Freddy Vs. Jason rocked!!"

maybe im a loser, but i had read the book a long long time ago, and it scared the hell out of me...like, terrified me.. and then when i saw the movie, i just sort of laughed. apparently, my imagination is much worse than anything that could be put into the film.
same thing happened with hannibal...loved the book, the movie was just sort of a let down... (other than ray liotta eating his own brain.)
a little bit disappointed with Freddy vs. Jason
Jason began to turn "nice". I got no problem with that in particular, especially against Freddy-boy, but he lost some of the fear factor in him, apart from the fact (IMO) he looked different than in other films; I know it was a different actor but he just wasn't the "real" Jason.

You actually expected that to be a good movie though?
When they changed the tiltle from Jason vs Freddy, to Freddy vs Jason I should have known.
Have to say Freddy is NOT my fav character, maybe they should have changed the title to A Nightmare On Elm Street 5 or 6, or whatever number it would have been (guest starring Jason Voorhees, in a VERY minor role)

thats the key isnt it ...
Many of the movies mentioned here didnt exactly have any promise to begin with.
The ones you knew nothing about shouldnt have held much in the way of expectations either.
House of the Dead and RE2 were 2 huge dissapointments because you knew going in they would be zombie films.
Bloodless zombie films are pointless to make and will dissapoint anyone other than someone seeing their very first horror film.
Complaining that the TCM remake was a let down is like complaining that going to the dentist caused you some discomfort.

The biggest letdown would have to be the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.....the remake was 100 times beter! I heard a lot of buzz about how terrifying and gory the original was and decided to check it out BEFORE I saw the remake and IMO I cannot see why the movie had so many people freaked out when it was realeased in theaters. I mean COME ON, the only disturbing scene in the WHOLE movie is when......wait, I forgot, there were no disturbing scenes in the movie, my bad. Seriously though, everyone always mentions the scene where Sally is tied to a chair at the dinnertable, but all it is is her whiny ass crying and a close up on her eyeballs for like 10 minutes. WHOA that's entertaining! ::note sarcasm::. And for all the haters of the remake out there I just have to say ONE THING, you may not have liked it better then the original ::gag::, but you gotta admit, the suicide scene was awesome and somewhat original!
