Well, I need to see this movie.
As I have said before, my dad is not a fan of horror movies. But last night, he was telling me how much he enjoyed this film when he saw it as a small child. He said that there were some parts it that scared him so much, he can still remeber them to this day.
What do you guys think of it? Ill have an opinion soon, just as long as Blockbuster has it....

whatever happened to baby jane is a classic starring bette davis, it is an excellent movie if u like old B+W thrillers, like i have said before, some of the B+W movies of the latter day are better than most of todays attempts and this film is no exception, worth checking out in my opinion.
Classic thriller with some great performances. I wouldn't call it scary especially by todays standards.I had seen this as a child and was never frightened by it.

Very good movie. Bette Davis is completely evil in it.
You gotta watch it. Athough might not appeal to you Vamp.

It's really good. One of my favorites. My mom said the same things your dad said. It's actually a little haunting and creepy more than scary, but it's still awesome.
My blockbuster doesn't have it, but you can check online or call before you go. I had a really hard time finding it at video stores, but I found a copy at our library, on DVD. They've got a lot of old great movies like that.

Blockbuster does carry it however. This is one of my hands down favorite films. There's a lot of dark humor in it. I recently saw 'Living Hell', a Japanese film (taglined 'The Japan Chainsaw Massacre') which borrowed heavily from 'Baby Jane' in many ways. There's no monsters or tons of blood and gore, but the film is way chilling. I just wish I took better care in labeling my videos so I could find out which tape I have it on LOL. Pick it up off eBay for the price of a rental if you have to. It's well worth it.

BTW Davis and Crawford actually hated each other in real life and working together on this film didn't seem to help matters much.

Davis is a real bitch and the automobiles are wonderful.
I didn't notice whether anyone mentioned there is the original version--Davis and Crawford--and a remake with the Redgraves--also good but more contemporary.

I almost completely forgot about that made-for-tv remake! Of course I watched it at the time. I thought it was a very pale comparison to the original at best. The original is untouchable as far as I'm concerned.

I just watched this a few days ago. I found it nerve-wracking. I'd probably consider it more of a suspense film then a horror technically, but it is definitely creepy! 100% worth renting.

Your Blockbuster may carry it, but not ALL Blockbuster Stores carry it. You can rent it through them online if you have that option. Like I said before, I found it through the library.
If it doesn't get rented, Blockbuster'll throw it out, and lets face it, there's a lack of interest in the classics nowadays.

Very true. I'm in Chicago and it seems like there's a Blockbuster on every block (right next to the Starbuck's). I'm sure Netflix has it. They have a lot of good stuff on thee I've noticed.

My dad always says how great this film is and how he remembers going to see it at the drive in as a kid.
As much as I want to see it, I just cant bring myself to spend $30 on a blind buy.

Try this, Watch Mommy Dearest, then laugh hysterically whenever something terrible happens to joan crawford. adds a whole new layer to the experience.

The only place I can find it is at Blockbuster, plus it's a 2-disc SE. Blockbuster is always overpriced to begin with for new movies (they're great for used though).

I can't think of many films that disturbed and impressed me more. The remake with Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave wasn't bad either. I don't know if I'd be able to take watching it often enough for a DVD purchase, though. Horrifying and truly classic.

AWESOME movie! I love this one, creepy and scary! If you collect classics this is a must have.
I must just be old, but I think the old black and whites are the best scary movies. There is more to scary than seeing someone get their head chopped off!
LOL, must just be me, I'm old!

Bette Davis created her own make up for the role.
It was Victor Buono's first movie.
The two divas battled it out off screen as well. Reportedly Crawford put rocks in her pockets in one scene where Davis had to drag her around. Davis had a Coke machine installed on the set because Crawford was involved with Pepsi.

I watched this film several months ago and thought it was great. I definitely would not call it scary, but it did have some intense scenes. The acting was tremendous (Both Crawford and Davis, who actually had a real rivalry at the time). Additionally, it had several pretty funny scenes; my favorite was the "super chief" scene. When I first saw this scene, I could not stop laughing, mainly because it was so unexpected. This is definitely in my top ten of black and white movies (at least in horror).

spoilers!
This movie was awesome! It's not really scary, but like some people said, there are some intense scenes in it. I was creeped out when Bette answered the phone impersonating Joan's voice. I was like WTF!? I thought that Bette was actually doing that! Turns out that it was actually Joan, but for a minute there I was pretty freaked out!
I also love how Baby Jane never washes off her makeup. She just kept gunking up her face with it. Gives it that creepy, cracked makeup effect. Gross!

First saw this a few years ago and, though I despise the notion of a "favourite movie", if I had to make a top 5, it would certainly be up there. Despite its length it's one of those films that no matter what mood I'm in I can always watch it. Knowing the on set rivalry of the two aging divas makes it all the Better (hehe, how punny of me). Recommended it to my Psychology teacher two years ago and she made 4 classes watch it within the same week.
Too often I'll find myself humming "I've Written a Letter to Daddy."
