When I heard they were doing a remake of Ju-On, I got excited. Then, when I heard that Sarah Michelle Geller was going to play the lead... Why her?
I haven't seen the original Ju-On but I heard it's real popular in Japan. I've seen clips of it as well as the first 8 minutes of it on IFilm.com and it looks real corny. But now that the director of Ju-On is doing the remake here in America with a much bigger budget and a cast of much better actors and visual effects, I hope that the American remake will be great.
The trailer for it looks real awesome. And from what I saw of it, Sarah's not too bad. In the trailer, I noticed a few similarities to Ringu and The Ring being the oval shaped mirror and the pale girl with huge eyes and hair shrouding her face. In an interview with the director, Takashi Shimizu, he says that that's how ghosts in Japan are described looking like.
I do hope that The Grudge will be a success and then go on to having a sequel or two like The Ring which has a sequel due out next year and a prequel sometime after that. Speaking of The Ring 2, Daveigh Chase isn't returning! What kind of bullsh*t is that?
Another Japanese horror movie making its way to American theaters is Dark Water starring Jennifer Connelly.
In an interview done by IFilm.com, Sarah Michelle Geller says that The Grudge is a more scarier than The Ring. The trailer makes it look like an awesome horror movie. But look what trailers did to The Village. I'll take Sarah's word and watch this movie right when it comes out and hope that Japanese horror in America becomes a brand new Hollywood trend that will never die.

I'm willing to give this a shot. It's directed by the same guy who made the four Japanese films, so it should be interesting. I mentioned somewhere else that I've heard it's going to be part remake, part Juon 5. The trailer looks like a remake of the first Ju-on theatrical film (Ju-on 3, basically.). The same actress is back playing Kayako the murderous ghost, so It'll be interesting to see.

HOWEVER, a bit cliche tho. come on, havent i seen this shit from somewhere else??

Just read the new interview on this site with Sarah. Interesting read. The more I read about this movie the more I want to see it. I just hope that they didn't Americanize it too much. :)
I thought some of you might also be interested in an interview with the movie's screenwriter, Stephen at http://www.smgfan.com/StephenSusco.htm. That site is also doing an online Q&A with him at their unofficial The Grudge board.

the dark haired "rotten chick" is some sort of boogeyman in Japan. I can't remember what she's about, but she's a prominent "scary story figure"... she has a name too, but I don't remember...

haha! I just watched the Children of the Corn last night
Sarah Michelle Gellar being in The Grudge does nothing to ruin it guys, during the last few seasons of Buffy she really came into her own as far as being more serious as an actor. The fact along that the Grudge is based on a japanese horror film, and that it has actually scared some people as they watch the trailer is enough to make it worth a try.

I know it's based on jap horror stories, but I don't know exactly what the move is about. I think it looks fuckin awesome. < my opinion. I'm not usually into who's acting, I'm more into the story line, plot, and graphics. So "Buffy" doesn't bother me by being in it.

She's right. Ju-On and the remake have the same director. If you can, check out the E! Behind the Scenes. It's pretty good.. has interviews with the director, three of the actors and Sam Raimi.

Basically it's about the superstition that when someone dies in a state of terror and confusion (which, to me, would be an awful lot of people) there's a stain on the environment. Anyone who enters that environment is subject to that grudge and the revenge the deceased person is taking for dying in such an awful way.
It explains it in the trailer.

Just got back from seeing it. Waste of $8.50, a real yawner. Slow and predictable.....you knew what was going to happen before it happened. All the scenes that were suppose to be scary everyone in the audience was laughing out loud, and after the final scene and the credits started to roll the entire theatre let out a "Oh come on, that's it???????"
There was one scene that reminded me of the 2 weeks I spent last year in Shanghai, China. In the grocery store trying to figure out what the hell stuff was and how much it cost....lol.
Also thought the Japanese Detective's throw back Columbo style trenchcoat was funny!
Anyway, that's my opinion. I guess what some find scary others find lame.....just another disappointment......holding out hope for SAW......:(

I saw it. My take? The story caught my attention. I loved the idea of being killed under extreme circumstances or what have it and a curse is born in place of death driving the victim to seek revenge. I just think it could have been told a little better. I'm not dissapointed though. I liked how it came out and It hit all the right nerves. I havn't been creeped out like that in a while. Hated the ending though. The website is good too.

I for one thought that the Grudge was very good. However, I was mildly disappointed in the actualy scariness of the film. I know i jump about 20 times in the movie, but in the end i found that i was thinking the stuff that happened was just screwed up as opposed to being scary. I still highly recommend it to everyone though

There are a couple of decent scares but nothing major and the "ghost girl" make's this strange prolonged belch noise. This film is a real disappointment.

I heard that the Japaneses version of the grudge is much sacrier then our version. If it is, it is going to be a kick ass movie to see. I loved the one we have I hoped to see the Japanese version
