Help!
I cleared everything off of my computer--apparently more than I needed to--to load a new version of Virus scan.
The reason I'm bugging you guys is this the only place I can communicate to--I can read E-mail--but not send--some, but not all web pages come up blank--and say done at the bottom--chat is totally dead. Windows media player 9 cannot open--says a file not found--but internet radio works fine.
I 've got windows 98SE--I know its old--and Internet Explorer version 6. And I haven't even tried to install Norton Anti-virus yet--nor can I contact their webhelp site.
When I insert any CD in the drive, autostart works fine--but when you get into the program, I get the page with red X'S, but no info.
A DVD plays fine.
Do I need to reload internet explorer--or is there a simpler fix?
I know this is not horror--or is it?--
Thanks for your help.

I would just uses system recovery. Makes the computer like it was brand new. I have a XP, and I eneter the restore by pressing and holding down F10 during start-up when theres the black screen wiith the logo. Serch your computer for system restore, but I warn you, save all important photos and stuff to a floppy disc.

Thanks Freddie C and Sistinas.
Possibly Freddie C's will work for Sistinas.
Unfortunately Windows 98 SE does not have a similar feature--or if it does I don't know what it is called.
I sure do appreciate you guys--and Sistinas--help.

Computer still not working right--I was told to download I Explorer again--which I will--But meanwhile, I went to the convenience store for a soft drink--Best one dollar I ever spent!
Can't wait for tomorrow to cash it--See Fluffho--It does pay to work on old equipment.

Thanks, Fluff,
Yeah, if I hadn't of been keeping my old comp alive--and I'm using it now, so it is working--and gone to the store for a Dr. Pepper I never would have bought the $1.00 ticket which won $2,000.00
Serendippitous? Thanks for the congrats.

I apologise!
I don't usually post after myself, but I found a repair tool in Windows 98SE for Internet Explorer 6 -- IT WORKED.
Thanks, everybody. for your patience.

Yep. Fortunate for me, I have fixed them for 3 years, so i usually dont have any real problems :)
run a small magnet on various parts on the inside of your comp. that should straighten you out

What started all the shit was trying to install a new version of McAfee VirusScan version 9 to replace version 8.
When that didn't work I tried Norton, it kept insisting that I needed a new file from Internet Explorer 6--Which I re-downloaded, but that didn't work either.
So, I'd already returned the CrapAfee and purchased Norton--so now I've returned the Norton--and installed Avast--a free 14 month download--and it seems to work great--very easy to install.
In fact with the McCrap gone--my old HP Scanner and a couple of other thing work much better.
Thanks for your help.
