OCALA -- Marion County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an apparent suicide on Baseline Road early this morning. Deputies were called to a report of a person being struck by a vehicle in the 5000 block of Baseline Road. When they arrived, they found Dyna Mae Bennett, DOB 2/27/1987, lying on the west shoulder of the road. Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Bennett had been arguing with her boyfriend, Richard A. Hodgdon, at 5126 SE 58 th Road throughout the night. During that time, Bennett made statements about suicide. The argument continued, and Bennett eventually left the residence. Approximately 10 minutes later, Mark Digiugno was traveling southbound on Baseline Road in a 2002 Ford F-250 pickup when he observed what he believed to be a garbage bag in the road. He positioned his truck to straddle the bag, which he realized at the last moment was actually Bennett. Digiugno was unable to avoid striking Bennett, who was also struck by a 1984 GMC pickup traveling behind Digiugno, driven by Richard Boyd.
No foul play is suspected in Bennett’s death.
