I included the dead trilogy in a serious discussion in english class!

We were discussing etertainment and enlightenment in movies/books, and I broght up how the dead trilogy had the entertainment, of course, but also had a deep social commentary

Im reading Deliverance in school and they allow it. You should be able to talk about a gun and shooting. Our school does all the time

you should try and work the words "gun" and "shoot" into everything you say from now on in that class

Considering how many people died because of box cutters, i think a little airport security is appropriate...

But the teacher getting bent out of shape over the use of 2 common words in english is bullshit. it not like you said "I am Going to Shoot you with my gun"....

Fucking tight asses... If it werent for a few teachers i had growing up and people like Stingy, i would have no use for most teachers.

tight asses, indeed...

my french litterature teacher was one perverted guy!! the man used to find sexual innuendo in almost any poem or used to read those full of it (i suggest appollinaire... it's like porn for your brain instead of your eyes!).... needless to say, everyone loved his classes because he was hilarious !!

can you imagine this in an american school ?? lol ... i think not !

I agree totally. I'm willing to compromise, (not eliminate) some freedoms in the name of safety. Sure it incontinences most, but the 1 or 2 it might catch are worth it.

I had my pocket knife confiscated at Kings Island, (theme park). They gave me a claim ticket and told me I could pick it up when I left. As we stood in line with our tickets a guy came running out of the crowd, jumped one of the terminals and kept running. One of the security personnel tackled him, and 1/2 second later 3-4 more were on him like SOS. Everybody was like WOW! One guy spoke up and said, "what a great place to kill a bunch of innocent people" Needless to say tons of security staff came from everywhere and the metal detectors were manned with 3-4 staff each. It took us about an additional 15-20 minutes extra to get in the park, but to protect the lives of my family it's worth it, (it was quick and painless getting my knife back when we left by the way.)

As far as comments in School, it's the context that needs to be examined not necessarily the content. Romeo & Juliet, along with Othello are read/discussed and those are certainly violent/graphic stories.

Yeah first time i got on a plane in San Fran it took like 4 hours going through all the security. I mean they shouldve cracked down a little but they went a little over the borderon this one

Also Lord of the Flies, and many other books.......even fairy tales.

I think because of all the violence that has occured involving children over the past few years, society has become over sensitive to anything related to it. Problem is it is almost impossible to avoid whithout contradicting ourselves. Just look at all the people who won't even let their kids participate in Halloween activities because of the horror connection!

Society is systematically taking all the joy out of childhood and sheltering kids from the realities of life. No wonder so many kids lack self control.

WHAT

ok here is how i see and ITS JUST AN OPINION (that could in fact offend some)
if you get killed on a plane with a box cutter and there are like 50 ppl on the plane not doing shit about it WTF IS UP. I MEAN 50 ppl cant take a couple of guys with FUCKING BOX CUTTERS. BESIDES a little tighten security aint gonna do shit about planes being hijacked and ppl deing. I hate it when ppl try to get us to sacrifice freedoms in order to get a lil more of a secure feeling. and if you have freedoms to sacrifice then you are not really free.

I dont know what it was like for them on the plane or anything but with just box cutters, you would think the human spirit and will to survive in those 50 people would amount to SOMETHING atleast.....

I agree about the freedoms and believe the patriot act is one step down a very steep road.....

It was Benjamin Franklin..."They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Ben also said: "Laws too gentle are seldom obeyed; too severe, seldom executed."

I think going through metal detectors or having your luggage searched is not an "essential" liberty. IMO

They used box cutters, pepper spray and threatened that they had a bomb. On all the planes. They were also more than a couple of people.[the terrorist] Groups of 4 and 5. I imagine after the first throats were cut, people were very intimidated.
The one plane crashed into the ground because a group of passengers broke into the cockpit. They knew about the Twin Towers and decided to go down fighting. That plane was supposed to hit the White House.

Ya i agree but dont get me wrong here im not saying anything bad about the ppl that died in 9/11. im not really talking bout 9/11 im just saying in general. i mean the only thing that we are really doing when we tighten homeland security and tighten security in airports is just to get a "safe feeling" i mean you can never be 100 percent safe. its just like Arioch said. i mean the will to survive should kick in at some point and a little fear of getting my throat cut isnt gonna stop me from trying to FIGHT FOR MY LIFE. that plane that went down before it hit the white house was probably the bravest thing i have ever heard i mean damn that takes some balls.

#1, The average person does not want to sacrifice themself. You have 1 guy with a gun holding 20 people hostage. Can they take him? Sure, he has 7 bullets, there are 20 of them, even if he had 1 kill per bullet, they could still take him. WHo in the group wants to be the first to die? None of them.. So they sit.

And i must agree, 4 hours in line blows, but it sucks just a little less than being used as an anti-skyscraper missle.

My dad is a managerfor the screeners at a local airport. trust me, they only exercise a small portion of the authority they have. Did you know that they are federal agents, and as such, if you got irrate with them and started harrasing them, you are technically committing a felony?

the flip side of this whiole thing is that while they will make you leave your metal nail file and pocket knife before boarding, it is up to their discression as to wether or not to say anything to you if youhave drugs. you could have a pound of cocaine, and they arent required to say a thing.

God help them if my Dad catches them, though....He wanted to be a cop, and instead spent 4 years in the army and 19 in the Air Force. he personifies "Zero Tolerance".

It's a good thing there are no nonsense guys like your father running the show.[at the airport] Most of the screeners I've seen are just going through the motions.

Society is systematically taking all the joy out of childhood and sheltering kids from the realities of life. No wonder so many kids lack self control. that is seriously true i mean if someone is sheltered like that they cant handle the realities of life if there not perpared for it. which i was sheltered but not as much as the kids today. its a bad thing
