Police Seek Tips In Bizarre Execution

The macabre execution of a Hyde Park man whose mouth was sewn shut and hands bound behind his back before he was fatally shot in the chest has moved homicide detectives to appeal to the public for help.

``They're asking for anyone who knows or may have witnessed something to come forward,'' Beverly Ford, Boston Police Department spokeswoman, said yesterday.

Kyle Andrews, 36, was clinging to life when police found him face down Thursday night in the first-floor hallway of 25 Business St., a trail of blood spatter leading to his empty apartment one floor above. An hour later, he was dead.

``Some people say it's a quiet neighborhood,'' neighbor Juan Martinez, 18, said of the street overlooking the Hyde Park commuter rail, ``but if it's a quiet neighborhood, you really don't know what to expect.''

Police went to the four-family dwelling at 8:37 p.m. Thursday after a resident reported hearing a gunshot. Andrews, who sources said did not appear to be known to police, collapsed outside a neighbor's door. His homicide was the city's 51st this year.

The apartment house remained sealed off yesterday as investigators waited on a search warrant.

Andrews' distraught family, including a woman who burst into tears as she drove slowly past the murder scene, said he has a teenage daughter, but otherwise declined to speak.
