Woman, Boyfriend Charged With Trying To Kill Grandmother
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A woman and her boyfriend face attempted murder charges for trying to kill her grandmother with swords, police said.
During police questioning, Michelle Renee Smith, 21, and David Lee Hinton, 18, said they tried to kill 61-year-old Patsy Fowler Thursday as part of a plot to steal her money.
Investigators said Smith and Hinton, who wore a Ninja Halloween costume, used swords with blades of 27 and 30 inches to attack Fowler around 2:30 a.m. while she slept.
She received multiple stab wounds to her head and upper body and is listed in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Despite her injuries, police said Fowler was able to run to a next door neighbor for help.
Investigators said Smith and Hinton had planned the attack for several days.
