FINAL GIRL FILMS ANNOUNCES INDIE HORROR SHORT FORM FILMMAKER COMPETITION

IN CONJUNCTION WITH SHRIEKFEST FILM FESTIVAL

May 20, 2010 – North Hollywoood – Final Girl Films LLC is proud to announce their new short film competition for independent horror filmmakers looking to make their next short film project.

From May 20th through June 20th, interested filmmakers may enter the competition where, if chosen, the recipient will win $500 towards making their short film and when completed, their project will be entered into the 2010 Shriekfest Short Film Competition for a chance to be a part of the 10th Anniversary Shriekfest Film Festival this upcoming October.

How to Enter:
Filmmakers can enter by visiting
www.finalgirlfilms.com to fill out the entry form and submit their original and completed short film screenplay before June 20th.   On June 25th, the winner will be announced.  Winners will receive $500 towards getting their short film completed.  Please note, this is not a competition for a completed short film, but for short film scripts.  We will not accept any entries for projects that have already been completed.

Each screenplay entry is subject to a $10 entry fee, which will go 100% towards future contests and promotions to help support independent filmmakers working in the horror genre.

The Fine Print:
·         Contest is open to US residents only.  Entrants must be 18 years or older.
·         All entries must be received no later than 11:59 pm on Sunday, June 20th.
·         The winning filmmaker will retain creative control over their own final project, however FINAL GIRL FILMS will serve as producer on the project and should be listed as such in the credits, any promotional materials, etc.
·         The winner will have their entry fee waived into the Shriekfest Short Film Competition, however, that does not guarantee that the project will be selected as a finalist since all entries into Shriekfest are reviewed by a panel of judges.

Heather Wixson, President of Final Girl Films LLC, is a four-year-veteran horror journalist who has been a long-time champion of independent horror through her work with
www.dreadcentral.com and www.terrortube.com.  Wixson started Final Girl Films in November 2009 and is currently in pre-production on the animated short “Buddy Cop Precinct” as well as her own horror short called “Rock, Paper, Scissors.”

“I’ve spent four years learning a lot about the independent filmmaking process, and what I’ve learned that for most of the directors, money is always an issue,” explained Wixson. “With that in mind, I wanted to create a contest that gives back to the independent horror filmmakers and provides them an opportunity to create their own short film and not let money be a hurdle for them.”

“Since Shriekfest is the premiere independent horror film festival in Los Angeles, I am excited to get to partner with Denise Gossett, founder, for this exciting new venture.  If all goes well, look for more competitions from Final Girl Films,” Wixson added.
