Being new I feel pretty small posting amongst everybody here with their multi-thousand post counts, but I picked Insidious. I felt it was one of the best haunting type movies to be released in quite some time. The second half of the movie wasn't as good as the first half I thought, but overall it still ranks as one of the best horror movies in recent years. Tucker and Dale was great though.

Don't feel nervous posting. We all started somewhere.

My son convinced my husband to give Netflix a try (yay!!:)), so I've now seen half of the films. Troll Hunter is still the one to beat.

Stakeland for me. Tucker & Dale was really good and everyone knows how harsh I am on horror comedies :D

Still need to watch Troll Hunter been slack on that one. I have a copy but just haven't been in the mood for watching something with subtitles.

I enjoyed Tucker and Dale, was underwhelmed by Trollhunter, wouldn't touch Scream 4 with a ten foot pole and have yet to see Stakeland, making my favorite horror film of the year most likely Chillerama. Chillerama was not great, but I think it was the best horror movie of 2011 on the basis of its daring, its ingenuity and its willingness to transgress. It shows hope for the genre to become more in-your-face. We haven't seen a lot of films in the tradition of H.G Lewis and Frank Hennenlotter and whatnot, but this seems like a sign of bolder, badder, nastier films to come that remind filmmakers that they are not limited by propriety or notions of what the genre is, but by their imagination and courage.

I'll round off my double feature tonight with Chillerama. You've sold me on it.

I hope you enjoy it. You should at least get a few laughs and a chance to see a glimmer of hope in the new trend toward audacity. Without audacity, horror doesn't work.
