Knocked Up

I must have seen this a few dozen times by now. Never get sick of it. It's Apatow's best to date, for sure.

Orphan (2009). With lots of "children gone bad" flicks out there lately, Orphan threatened to be another run of the mill of this genre. But nope, instead, it was a genuine and original horror flick and more. The story itself was solid, and there were many subtle subplots to make it that much better. The acting was solid throughout, with nary a cringe when the youngsters came onscreen. The direction and cinematography were commendable. As a horror flick, the scares were real, and there were a couple of scenes that made me cringe for all of the right reasons. Overall, a great entry that Hollywood should take note of. Merci beaucoup.

The Hotel - very disappointing. I thought it was great because of the famous hollywood line up, but the story sucks big time.

The Magnificent Seven (1960). Based on a Kurosawa classic, this incredible western classic stands on its own two feet. With the story already set, this film wonderfully comports itself to fit in with the wild West, and it does so wonderfully. The opening scene superbly sets the stage for our little tale to unfold. The cast were outstanding for this type of work. Brynner was perfect as the lead, with McQueen playing his part as second in line. Wallach is also strong in his portrayal of the bandit. My favorite was Coburn, cool quiet and deadly, much like a samurai. The score deserves mention as well and fully deserved its Oscar nomination. Simply a great western classic that deserves to be seen again, and again...

Masterson of Kansas

A western directed by William Castle. Not very good. The direction was trite and formulaic. He was much better in his element with horror.
