Over The Hedge

Cute but the slapstick is kind of annoying. My daughter loved it though and since it's for kids, i'd say its good.

The last one I saw was Halloween Resurrection - It was pretty good, though other hardcore horror fans may disagree. I'm incredibly biased towards horrors and since I love the Halloween series, I couldn't help but enjoy this. Really, the only Halloween movie I didn't like was Halloween 3 but that's cause it had nothing to do with Michael Myers and the first two movies. That scene where the girl stumbled into Michael's secret room was my favorite part. Aside from the kills, it had some funny moments too, including that banter with Michael Myers and the guy who was impersonating him.

I started watching the Curse of Michael Myers but it was late and I fall asleep. I'm gonna finish it tonight and with that, I'll have completed the trilogy of Halloween films that I bought for $5.

Island of Lost Souls (1933)

The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974)

Two wonderful, brilliant films.

Deep Rising meets The Abyss on an offshore oil rig!

The beginning of the film is so reminiscent of The Abyss that it's uncanny - right down to the small glowing creatures! For the next 30-odd minutes the film goes nowhere before the first death occurs. Many things are left unexplained which makes it a bit confusing (the ridiculous subtitles don't help much either) and when the explanations come, they make your eye roll. Then, the film enters Deep Rising mode (even swapping the power jet ski-boat of Treat Williams/Famke Janssen for a motorbike here). The similarities don't end here - look closely after the climax and you will find an ode to Predator's ending in the whole chopper pickup scene!

A mish-mash of several Hollywood films (the maker is obviously very inspired by all of them) which sadly doesn't click. Only when the monster comes in (a pretty cool looking one - http://popcultureninja.com/wp-conten...-7-monster.png), does the film get any sort of injection to run forward.

Too bad, because they could have done wonderfully well with the setting - an offshore oil rig cut off from the world during a thunderstorm.

Watch if you have any time to spare for a monster film. Skipping it will not be a big deal at all.

Rating - * *
