I thought that Roth really showed promise with Cabin Fever. Hostel... ugh. I didn't like it at all, but I've stated my opinion on this many times. Maybe he can make a better film, but I have a feeling he may get stuck in a rut of exploitation/torture flicks.

I don't care for him at all. He came across as being fairly lame on the Bravo count downs, and both Cabin Fever and Hostel were weak. I excused Cabin Fever because it was his first film, but Hostel was such a waste of time. I get the sense that Roth has a very high opinion of himself, but he hasn't come close to earning that. I don't plan to bother with Hostel 2 or any more of his films unless I hear that he has gotten his act together.

He was at the beginning of the movie when the boys first started off on their trip and he played a hitchhiker, it was really small part.

He's got potential... I liked parts of CF and Hostel. I like his passion for the trashiness of the genre (gore/nudity). He might put out something impressive or else annoy me with dipshit characters.....

This was my main problem with Hostel. The characters were so utterly unlikeable that it was impossible to connect with them.

Agreed, good horror should have characters that you care about, so that ther eis an empathetic link tot hem when something happens, you get a stronger feeling. Eli Roth's characters are the kind of people I would LIKE to torture and kill, so who hives a rat's ass what happens to them.
And if he thinks they are sympathetic characters, then what does that say about him? He seriously strikes me as the kind of guy who would slip a girl roofies...
