Seems like there's a general feeling that the artwork of paintings/drawings works better for covers than photos. It was always one of the things I most enjoyed about the posters/covers for the Prequel Star Wars Trilogy.
Someone posted this way back when but I really wish they'd do more like it! HMV does some good limited edition comic-style box art for DVDs too.
