Most underrated games

I have been reading up on some of the Top 10 threads (and articles) and it surprises me to see so many people missing out on Clive Barker's Undying.

It was a game which had everything - awesome atmosphere, creepy-as-fuck background score and music, levels which tested the reflexes (and the sanity) to the maximum, and some kickass boss levels which were a bitch to overcome.

Add the spell-casting (I loved the Skullstorm spell, and of course the wonderful Scrye), with the weapons. Ahh...wonderful game! Gonna load it up again sometime soon.

Also, Siren is another which deserves much more recognition than it actually gets in the gaming world. Anyone who has played this one will VOUCH that it literally sweeps you off your feet! Not mentioning the fact that it will make you run for the light and tremble even in day-time while playing.

Any others out there worth a lot more mention than the usual?

I totally disagree with you on that one, V.

The oh-so-clever gameplay just sucks. You wanna fight the evil you're up against, not run away from it. That was the case with the original Siren.

At least in the new Siren: Blood Curse you get the chance to more or less fight them off. But i still don't appreciate the concept.

I have to agree with Angra on this one. Siren really wasn't that great of a game. It just didn't hold up in comparison to other survival-horror games.

Clive Barker's: Undying, on the other hand, is a sinfully scary experience. Very good game.

A game I've heard very little about, but which impressed me imensely, is Gun. It's an improvement on the overated Grand Theft Auto games. And since it's set in the Wild West the idea of getting away with crimes is justified. This is unlike the GTA games where you only get away with crimes because the coppers are lazy. If everybody did anything they wanted to civilians in big cities like that there'd be no one left :P.

The Thing
Painkiller - well, comparatively "serious sam" got a lot more praise...
shit, I can't think...I guess underrated is just any other game I liked and not many others did, I could be in the wrong there.

I totally get what you both are driving at, but I thought it was different. At a time when RE and Silent Hill were fanboy's wet dreams come true, the makers of Siren wanted to make something different, and not just another RE/Silent Hill clone.

Ergo, the slightly complicated gameplay. It was unique and offered something different, IMO. Not everything has to be confront-get best weapon out-shoot 'em up kinda stuff. I loved it.
