HOUSE (1986). remembered the TV ads and the FANGORIA coverage and REALLY wanted to like this, especially with all the familiar names in here. Not Funny, not scary and just not necessary. *1/2

BLACULA (1972). The typical AIP wackiness is prevalent in here, but stick with it and You'll find it's a lot better than You would expect. Wonderful performance by William Marshall with decent support by Vonetta McGee. Also a short turn by Elisha Cook JR, one of my favorites who meets a bad end in here, like he always seemed to in all of his movies.
A really good opener with one of the best most evil Dracula's ever-Charles MacCually had NIGHTMARE raving about it-and some pretty good scenes-especially involving Ketty Lester. Her second/third scenes scared the BeJesus out of me the first time I saw this. Despite the fact the film descends into DARK SHADOWS territory with the plot, still worth seeing. Also a few songs by The Hues Corporation who had a number #1 single a few years down the road! ***1/2 |
