Persepolis

At first I was drawn to the look of the films but was quickly turned off by a trailer I saw. Eventually the charm of the animation drew me into seeing this one and I'm thankful for that. I expected (yet another) movie villainize the West but any Western hate was portrayed by characters and didn't feel like a generalization to me, I was surprised. Turned out to be one of the best coming of age stories I've seen.

My Name is Bruce

I thought the first half was rather bad, just bad..... nothing good about it, but then it just turned into a great flick....

6.5/10

I saw some trailers for it at the cinema, but missed my chance to catch it, I was a bit unsure about how preachy it would be. but hopefully I will see it soon.

It wasn't preachy at all; any disgust felt for any government or country seems more of a personal feeling coming from "real" characters rather than a political agenda being pushed by the film-makers.

I just watched Max Payne.
Disappointingly boring, managed to capture the look of the game not so much the atmosphere. Mona Sax was completely miscast...didn't like the changes for the sake of changes...eh, it wasn't like "never watch this" material, but in all honesty barely managed to keep the interest
A few more things that pissed me off about this.
You'd think with an adaptation they'd have given some more nods to the game, maybe had a tv playing "lords and ladies" or whatever? The narrative was all but gone, I mean it didn't need to be for the whole film, but maybe more than a few sentences. The music - I didn't DISLIKE this music but it didn't feel right, something closer to the original score in this case would've been good. Whalberg, was actually bland as hell in this, I was hoping for better after shooter.
and the thing that pisses me off most of all?
No scene tied into "the baseball bat".
Yeah, I don't think I'll ever buy this.

Definitely agreed.
Check this one out when you get a chance, Disease. Great film.

---------------------------

L'avventura (1960)

It took me a couple watches to really come around to Antonioni's message and technique here. It's a barren film, but appropriately so, as it deals with the idle upper class, the emptiness they try to fill with interaction (in this case, love). They float through life, eyes glazed, unable to perceive any real depth in themselves and others, trying only to satisfy their boredom as to not disappear.

A truly affecting classic.

Watched Unbreakable while ironing.
Knowing the ending kind of takes something out of it, but it still remains a great movie, IMO, like the incredibles, without being based on any existing characters, manages to do better than most superhero films that are.
