Usually its the opposite - most films that 'claim' to be based on Lovecraft aren't really that good (or really based on Lovecraft for that matter LOL) - though this one does sound at least inspired by 'Cool Air'.

Started watching Area 407 but turned it off after about half an hour. Probably the worst found footage movie i've ever seen. Just terrible.

Whats with that? Seems like very few people can translate his works onto film.

Just the nature of having indescribable, unimaginable cosmic horrors I think :-)

I think the 2005 HPLS Call of Cthulhu is prolly the best adaptation around - even their (still great) Whisperer in Darkness isn't perfect..

Though I love Re-Animator - I think the film would have HP spinning in his grave :-)

Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation!

Documentary on the Australian exploitation movies of the 70's and 80's. It was really in-depth, including interviews with a plethora of important people from the era. It starts off with the early sex films and gross-out comedies, then goes more into the horror and action genres.

Before going into this, the only films from this genre I was familiar with was the Mad Max series (Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior being one of the all-time faves). Really worth checking out if you're unfamiliar with this sort.

Thanks to this, I have a bunch of new films to add to my watchlist: Patrick, Road Games, Dead End Drive-In (which is on Netflix streaming :)), Razorback, The Howling 3: Marsupials (looks totally bonkers), Snapshot aka The Day After Halloween, and Next of Kin.

Really well done. Recommended. Four out of Five stars.

Primal.

This is one of the few Australian horror movies I've seen. I don't know if this movie was supposed to be a bit of a comedy or not. It starts of like a lot of horror movies. The group of kids alone in the jungle. But there is a twist with the small cute blonde girl which is crazy. Also, the ending reveal is insane.

Great doco you should follow it up with Machete Maidens Unleashed.

------------

Chronicle

This was great enjoyed it's fresh take on the genre. Thought it was a good mix of the real life superheroes and found footage flicks. One of the better films of 2012 so far.

Nazis At The Centre Of The Earth

After reading all the negative reviews I was surprised by how much I liked this. Of course it's total shit but amusing and entertaining shit. Check it out if you're in the mood for a "bad" movie because it's one of the better modern ventures into the territory.
