Favourite Lovecraft Tale
Working my way through a Lovecraft collection and it's confirmed what I suspected for a long time - he is my favourite horror author. Weird fiction just does it for me - the combination of horrifying occult lore and sci-fi, all smushed together to make us feel terrifyingly insignificant.
BUT, I ask you, what are your favourite Lovecraft stories? Though I'll always have a soft spot for Call of Cthulhu, I think The Dunwich Horror clinches it for me.

Herbert West-Reanimator may seem a little spot on for a horror forum, but It's among my favorite Lovecraft works, as is At the Mountains of Madness, with the latter tale's setting being a highlight. I also share your love for Call of Cuthulu. That sucker was the first story by Ol' H.P. that I ever read. You never forget your first.

"Rats in The Walls"...great little story. Wife is a huge fan and has a lot of his work. Like him a lot myself, but like Stephen King, he can be incredibly long winded, but I forgive HP because he really didn't make any money where Steve has it to burn.
We visited his grave in Swan point Cemetary-Providence Rhode Island- this past September and after helpful Custodians took us right to it, we had some quiet reflection. |

As evident by my username 'The Call of Cthulhu.' But I also love 'At the Mountains of Madness.' When it comes to shorter stories I'd go with 'The Silver Key'
