Stephen King's Salems lot - book

I saw the movie ages ago but never read the book. Has anyone here read this or know how good it is? :)

I've recently re-read Salem's Lot. It's very good but seemed a little dated.

IIRC, there were just some little things that kept reminding me that this took place in the seventies. I can't recall any single instance, and I don't believe it took away from the book. Things along the lines of Songs that were on the radio, the cost of small things and the absence of cell phones.

Sounds great. Those were the good old days of the 1970s! I'm going to try and order that book soon.

Thanks everyone...

I read it when it first came out and it was my favorite book. Many, many years later it's still one of my favorites.

Since you're ordering the book, take time to run down to the library and find the SK anthologies that have the short stories "Jerusalem's Lot" and "One for the Road".

IIRC, JL is the first story in one selection and OftR is the last story in another. Though I can't recall which, Skeleton Crew and Night Shift keep coming to mind.

JL is a nice prelude to the story that takes place 80 to 100 years before the novel. OftR takes place 5-10 years after the novel and has to be one of the best shorts SK has written.

The short story "Jerusalem's Lot" is far, far superior to the novel. King can really do the Lovecraftian thing right when he puts his mind to it. Don't get me wrong, Salem's Lot is an excellent work, it's just not as great as the short story, in my opinion.
