Wrong Turn (2003). Pretty good overall backwoods horror flick. i only saw the R version so i may need to track down an UR disc. There were some pretty graphic scenes, a couple of which stand out nicely. Acting was decent enough, with visual pulchritude making up for any deficiencies. Some of the cinematography really helped to keep up the dread hopelessness in this decent enough little horror flick.

Spoorloos (1988). Absolutely wonderful. While not as outright scary as i thought it might be, this flick's power lies in the prosaic calculation of evil. A slow burner for sure, the intensity of the protagonist and the mundane deliberations and epiphanies of the antagonist make for a nice prelude of what is to come. The acting is superb, the direction flawless, then ending: perfect. The ostensible symbolism turns out to be apropos as well.

Don't forget that today and tomorrow are the Dias de los Muertos and ya'll should probably say a little hello to you ancestors...

Friday:
Return to Horror High- Hilariously bad highschool slasher movie (read lots of boobs and blood) with George Clooney for the first 5 or so minutes but they advertise as if it's Clooney's big starring role.
Slither- I'm Bill Pardy. Best extra ever. Youtube it. I would link it but youtube is down for maintenance right now.
Nightmare Before Christmas- We needed background noise during horror movie pictionary, but it ended in many sing alongs.
Evil Dead 2- Yep, it's still as good as when I watched it a week ago.

Saturday:
Eraserhead- I'm still processing this. We watched it a little too early in the night so it was interrupted by many trick or treaters. I left to give out candy, and I heard Derek scream really loud. Ran back thinking he was hurt but he was scared by something in the movie. I enjoyed this a lot though, and we watched an interview with Lynch that was on the dvd. What a strange guy (not that I'm surprised) but he explained in great detail how beautiful the fresh intestines of a dead cat were and I kinda fell in love.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake)- We watched this while there were still some older trick or treaters coming around, and one guy came to the door white as a ghost. He was like "have you seen those guys next door?" We were out in the middle of no where in the country, but according to this guy the next door neighbours grandkids were scaring trick or treaters with a chainsaw. We had no clue because of the chainsaws on tv. Anyway, didn't much like this remake. Too many scenes that were specifically devised to include Jessica Beil getting wet, cold, dirty, sweaty and all wearing a white tank top. Oi.

Rob Zombie's H2- 8/10

Even after watching it a second time, I can't get over the scene with *spoilers*

Annie in the bathroom, and the scenes that follow. That scene made me realize that while Zombie doesn't always have his act together in film, he can really tug at the emotions of fear and despair when he tries.

Day of the dead 2 : Contagium

So forgetting about the name it was a rather fun zombie movie....

6.5/10

Dead Silence

A pretty lame effort from the writer and director of Saw. The ending is as bad as it can get.

4/10

Black Sunday

Great flick, it really sets the mood for Halloween.

8/10

Bad Dreams

A bit like Nightmare on elm street 3, but not a bad 80's slasher with a decent soundtrack.

6.5/10

Phantasm 2 – Not a great movie, but good fun.

Had a little marathon going at the party I went to last night:

Dead Alive (1992)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)
Freaks (1932)
Ernest Scared Stupid (1991)
Spider Baby (1968)

and today we watched Jurassic Park (1993) with Rifftrax, and it was hilarious and great.
