This is the new film from the director duo of 2007 French Gore classic INSIDE. Very beautifully filmed with great scores & impressive creepy premise, LIVIDE tells the story of Lucie, a young woman who has just taken on a new job as an assistant helping the elderly in their homes. After her employer "conveniently" tells Lucie about a rumor that Madame Jessel (an elderly comatose woman who is as dilapidated as the creepy Victorian house she resides in!) has a lot of money hidden in her home, Lucie brings her boyfriend and his brother with her to break into the Jessel manor in search of fortune. And yeah...the trio just picked the wrong mansion to rob as they soon realize there are evil forces waiting to torture and butcher the insatiable group of friends. The premise was pretty effective for a haunted house film & the INSIDE maker used it almost convincingly most of the time through building the suspense & delivering the chills & jump scares nicely in almost two-third of the film but the problem comes with the surprise elements of the plot as the back story wasn't that much clear and eventually things get pretty weird at the final act. The film doesn't seem to know which genre it wants to be...a nice haunted house story ended in a weird-creepy fairy tale fashion! But still I'd say overall it's definitely worth a watch. The cast was okay and at least there were some decent gore & creep elements that they delivered finely.

Sold.

And Dragon Eyes was just another mediocre action flick? Figures...

White Lightning

Enjoyed this one. Expected a bit more shitkicker bluegrass on the soundtrack. There were some great lines had me laughing my ass off. Think I'll have to check out some more old school Burt Reynolds flicks.

Paintball.
Sure it was brutal in parts, even borderline atmospheric.
Didn't really like it though...and I swear every "actor" in this must've been doing free work...it wasn't unwatchably bad, but yeah not for me.
Elements of potential, but yeah this is a pretty bad film IMO.

My recommendation for a better movie of a similar kind "Severance".

"The Crimson Pirate" (1952)
-Burt Lancaster

Plot:

Phantom's Review: Fun, light hearted film. The kind of film that makes it seem like being a pirate was all fun and adventure. Burt Lancaster is at his acrobatic best as the legendary "Crimson Pirate". Don't expect any historical accuracy, this is just a pure, good old fashioned swashbuckler. Epic sets, colorful costumes, romance, and plenty of sword fights. A wonderful film. Horror fans keep an eye out for a very young Christopher Lee as the assistant to the films villain.

The Night Stalker" (1972)
-Darren McGavin

Plot: IMDB

Carl Kolchak is a newspaper reporter with an abrasive personality that has gotten him fired ten times from various big-city papers. Now he's reduced to reporting for a relatively small-time paper in Las Vegas. It's here he gets the story of his life. But will the local sheriff, or the D.A., or even his own boss, let him print it? He has an ally in the FBI agent brought in to investigate this strange case. It seems someone is biting the necks of young girls and draining their blood. Can this killer with supernormal powers really be a 70-year-old Rumanian millionaire? Can he really be a vampire? And can an aging reporter do anything to stop him?

Phantom's Review: One of TV's best horror films. Produced by Dan Curtis' (Dark Shadows) and starring Darren McGavin in one of his best roles. A great blend of classic vampire story with modern day sensibilities. (at least for 1972). Good atmosphere, acting and story. a classic.

Little Deaths:

Pretty decent low budget Anthology (for the most part) centered around sex perversion. The last segment is from the guy who directed 'Red White & Blue'.

If you have netflix , the series is streaming there.

loved that show myself....but it really hasn't aged well. Just watched an episode a few weeks ago about a headless motorcyclist. But it a still has its charms.
