SNL's MacGruber coming to the big screen
The cast of Saturday Night Live is getting back in the movie business, with the show's recurring character MacGruber set to get the big screen treatment.
A spoof of the hugely popular 1980s TV series MacGyver, each sketch revolves around the title character trapped in a control room trying, and inevitably failing, to diffuse a ticking bomb. The film will look to expand the premise, with The Hollywood Reporter claiming that the plot will see the character pulled out of retirement as a monk in Ecuador to fight on behalf of his country. His nemesis will be the evil Cunth, who killed MacGruber's bride and now has a nuclear warhead. The cast will also be going a-list, for as well as Will Forte and Kristen Wiig reprising their roles from SNL, Val Kilmer is apparently in talks to play Cunth and Ryan Phillippe a possibility for Piper, the army officer forced to partner MacGruber. Jorma Taccone, who created the character and directed most of the skits, will helm, with Relativity Media fast-tracking the feature in the hope that it will hit screens before New Line's own MacGyver feature.
