I liked the premise of Apollo 18. It could have been more believable if there was something on the lines of Paranormal Activity in this (which I was sorta looking for, from the beginning). But as the story progressed and I started to see the reasons of this film being a sci-fi horror, I had the distinct feeling that this should have been the fodder for a commercial venture, instead of a found footage film. The latter half was novel (at least the makers were thinking of something different), and it made you feel that there were too many things happening at once. Still, the director manages to keep things taut, and you will find yourself biting your nails at least once, if not more.

The atmosphere created by the lighting and the bleak, silent surface of the moon was quite excellent, and the 3 principal actors contributed a lot to it as well. The script was good, although the pace was a bit slow in the first 20-25 minutes. The effects were okay, and coupled together with the multiple camera angles, added a lot of show to the proceedings. All in all, a pretty decent entertainer if you want to enjoy the film for what it is. If you are one of those geeky brainiacs who will look for reasons behind the reveal, you better stay away from this.

Well, it's definitely an over-the-top, sweeping absurd epic... I'm just not sure that I care for over-the-top, sweeping, absurd epics.

I thought that the movie definitely started strong, and I really liked the dark absurdest humor... But it lost me about half way through and by the time we reached the fantastically epic finale, I just wasn't into it.

Haha, no worries. Honestly, I'm with you on the finale. Even for being an over-the-top, sweeping, absurd epic, the ending was too much. Especially CGI-wise. Really deflated the finale for me. I mean, I still really liked the movie, but that would be my big complaint. Sorry you didn't like it. You may still enjoy his other films, though. While they are certainly crazy, I think they might be easier to get into. Dance with the Devil is a sleazy exploitation love-letter. Is it streaming? I thought it was only on DVD.

It was ok. I might have enjoyed it more if I wasn't stuck in a room with someone smoking.

XMen First Class (2011)
Thanks elvis this was excellent escapist viewing and I was overjoyed to see Banshee make one of the films. Much better than the last two. At first I wasn't sure about the cold war setting but I see this was necessary for the epic finale. A very fun filled film.

The Bloodstained Butterfly (1971)
Been a while since I saw a giallo so had to see this. What's most striking about this film is that it isn't the death scenes which are the best it's actually the sparse lurid scenes. It's worth watching for them and like all good gialli it does surprise you. Really for fans of the genre unfortunately not solid enough to introduce people to it.

The Reflecting Skin (1990) Intriguing and mysterious masterpiece directed by Phillip Ridley (The Passion Of Darkly Noon, Heartless). Though I still prefer Heartless I strongly recommend this as well. It's one of those rare gems that stands the test of time even though it is a period piece of unspecified date. Stunning performances from everyone, beautiful cinematographer that purposefully masters the setting of rural life. Very much a film open to interpretation but there is enough on the canvas to fully impress the viewer. Watch with an open mind and open a treasure of mystique :)
