Dersu Uzala (1975). Another masterpiece by Kurosawa. How he directs a Russian movie with a Mongolian co-lead is a mystery, but he does so wonderfully. This beautiful flick centers around the friendship that grows between two unlikely men, one adventurous but deeply civilized and cultured, the other innocent and wild. The movie almost has a documentary feel to it in the beginning, but this slowly ebbs away as the relationship between the Russian and the Gondi wildman comes to fruition. The cinematography at time was felt more than seen. The irony of "civilized man" really rears its ugly head in a cryptic sense at the of this incredible movie. Ashe.

One of my faves from my all-time fave director. Some of the cinematographic sequences are absolutely breath-taking and stunning.

I am so glad you are loving Kurosawa, D. His works are indeed once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

If you didn't know about Twilight I'd have just told you I was going to see a vampire flick that had vamps fighting each other as well as a group of shapeshifters that change into giant wolves. Also, I guess the only way to kill these vampires is to dismember them and burn all the pieces... why are such novel concepts hidden so deeply in these books/films?

Surrogates

Not bad actually. There are some plot holes left at the end, but overall it's a decent enough sci-fi action flick.

Ditto. It really surpassed my expectations... with the exception of the Shaun of the Dead guy playing Scotty that just didn't work at all IMO.

New Moon

Still not a great film but there was much more action, the acting was improved, and the story was a little more interesting this go around. I liked that Alice character and the Jamaican vampire.
