We Are What We Are: Awesome movie. Very brooding and intense. Not your typical cannibal movie. It's not without it's flaws though. Spoiler: It was quite unbelievable that they would suddenly forget about Gustavo. Of course if he didn't escape then the whole last quarter of the movie wouldn't have happened, but still I thought it was a very weak way to progress the story. Even with such a gaping plot hole, I loved this movie. It is quite simple, but highly effective. |

Strigoi (2009)
Strigoi is about Vlad, a failed med student who returns to his small Romanian hometown and ends up in the middle of a murder mystery. Vlad investigates a mysterious death in his grandfather's village that raises questions about land ownership in the community that somewhat beautifully captures a universal tone of village politics. The trail points to ex-communist Consantin Tirescu and his wife, but when Vlad confronts them, he discovers that the richest landowners in the village have become something other than a living human being. But the thing is thought there are some certain horror elements but this isn;t actually a horror film at all. It is more of a slow burn dark comedy that's currently facing marketing mishandling; as far I've noticed the movie has been pitched as a vampire flick and when people will pick it up for that reason then they will be sorely disappointed for sure. If you have any kind of appreciation for a fun and interesting story embodied in a well-crafted & well-acted film, then you should give it a try. Other than that skip it. >>: B Night of the Devils (1972) >>: C
