Overlooked sequels

There's quite a few great flicks that don't get their dues primarily because they are a sequel.

I've always thought Psycho II was brilliant along with Damien: Omen II. Hellraiser II was miles ahead of the original and had better atmosphere and was a better crafted film. Halloween II is solid and boasts some menacing pacing. I prefer Friday The 13th Part 2 over the original. The Exorcist III definitely made up for the shit smeared across our screens by the first sequel.

What are some of the sequels you guys dig?

As I've said before, superhero sequels are almost always better than the original. (The Dark Knight, Spiderman 2, Hellboy 2, Batman Returns, Superman 2). Hellraiser 2 is much better than the first one in several ways. Bride of Frankenstein is head and shoudlers above Frankenstein, and some of Hammer's later Draculas were far superior to Horror of Dracula. As campy fun, I think Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and 4 are pretty good, in spite of trading fantasy for horror much of the time. But, pound for pound the best example of a sequel outdoing the first entry in a series? The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

I always liked Superman II more than the original. Loved the villains in it.

Those Elm St flicks are fun for sure but I don't like how the turned Freddy into a wisecracking guy he was more menacing in the first two films. Wes Craven's New Nightmare was brilliant and made Freddy a better character and truer to the roots. They of course threw all that away in FvJ. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the series as a whole but just prefer the darker Freddy.

I dig Missing In Action 2 over its predecessor and Ninja III: The Domination FUCKING RULES.

LOL - fucked up idea...

And LOL@Ninja III: The Domination

Most of the films Doc Fautus mentioned are well recognised and hardly over looked - Bride of and Good the bad are considered the best of the genre..

The SubSpecies sequals are all better than the 1st film and aren't mentioned alot.

I like Jaws 2 - I think it may be just a guilty pleasure though and of course it pales in comparison to the original..

The Road Warrior id better than Mad Max but again you couldn't call it over looked..Its more popular than the original...

Return of the Living Dead does get a few props but i think it aws kinda ignored- I much prefer it to the 2nd one..

Oh and Silent Night Dealy night - the ultimate better unappreciated sequal..

Poltergeist II
Gremlins II
Critters II

I doubt any of these are regarded anywhere near as highley as the originals, but they stack up alright when compared to the original.

In some movies it seems like the idea of the movie is put forth in the first one and what you can actually do with that idea shows in the sequel.
