...fag :p I like FPS's probably most of all...most likely because of the whole perspective deal, it's exciting when you feel more literally like you're viewing the events from ground zero as the occur. Other than that, I quite like the diablo/dungeon siege style rpg's, the more story rather than battle based ones. |

rpgs require4 no skill what so ever. I beat half life 2 on hard.
half life 2 IS on the list of the best games. it got a 98% and pc gamer refers to it as the best game ever made, and so do I. Last edited by The Mothman; 02-02-2005 at 01:42 PM. |

Now tha'll be their queue to jump back in saying "but shooters are just action, they require no thought..blahblahblah"
There's no point trying to convince eachother that either "type" of game is better...the topic is "Which is YOUR fav"...not "Which kind of game is without a doubt better than all others"...gaming choice is a really individual thing. I never really trust ratings given by magazines n stuff, 'cos you never know what kind of obligation they are under to give "friendly" reviews...I like to play the game myself and give it my own assessment. I've not yet played enough of HL2 to comment, but what I have seen in the demo levels DOES look pretty funky... This is why I acknowledge that my favourite type is the FPS, because I personally like to experience the events of the game from that perspective, not to mention the continuous action, scares, the realism, the "world" that you're experiencing from ground zero, as though you're actually there, and how satisfying the simple act of shooting something can be, and how it makes you feel when your skill and reflexes alone get you through. Yet I also have played quite a few decent rpg's as well. I can't say I really like the overly complex ones like Neverwinter Nights and anything above that, but I loved Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance, diablo, and dungeon siege is one of my favourite games EVER. Then there's the top down "battle scenario" ones, like the awesome oldskool 16 bit title "shining force" (out now on gba, under SF: Rise of the dark dragon" get it!) some of those are ok too. Rpgs also have their good points, YES, you do think a little more...in a different way. Puzzle solving, quests, interaction, and in the top-down battle scenario ones, calculating moves for optimal efficiency and maximum defence can be great if you really get your head into it. All of these elements ARE pretty much in FPS's too, just in a different way. The thing is, there's no point arguing about it...pretty much EVERY kind of game has elements that appeal to SOMEONE, just play what you like, and fuck what anyone else thinks of it. |
