Texas - Man Stabbed To Death At Renaissance Festival

Man Fatally Stabbed In Renaissance Festival Parking Lot

Twenty-three-year-old Brandon Smith was killed in a brutal attack outside the festival grounds.

There has been one arrest in the case, but authorities say the suspect is not answering their questions. He's retained an attorney and is not talking.

Brent William Noland, 19, surrendered to authorities late Sunday afternoon. He's accused of the murder of Brandon Smith, 23, Saturday night in the parking lot of the Renaissance Festival in Plantersville.

According to a statement from the Grimes County Sheriff's Department, Noland confessed to a friend that he probably stabbed someone ten times. It also says Noland then showed his friend a bloody knife.

In all, authorities say Smith was stabbed 19 times. Investigators say Smith was killed during a fight with three or four men; a fight that started when someone made gestures and inappropriate comments toward his sister.

Smith had served in the Navy four years. He was on his second day of leave. His sister, Kristen, is also in the Navy. They timed their visits back home so they could attend the Renaissance Festival together.

Smith's family is all too familiar with grief. His mother lost one son in a drowning years ago and another son died in an ATV accident just 14 months ago.

Noland is expected to appear before a judge to answer to a charge of first degree murder Monday.
