I don't think he killed it though? *after looking it up* Ok maybe I just told myself he just kicked it... it's seen from a distance so it's easy to assume the dog could still be alive. Don't read the book though... from my understanding that scene is a lot more horrific...

At least he didn't go all the way with the cat. Felt bad for that lady though. She gave her life so the kitty could live</3
I stopped watching after the dog. Glad I did.

Pygmies: Children of the Jungle (2011)
9/10

ON NETFLIX NOW

If today someone told you, "sorry, turns out Pygmies were just a myth", you'd probably have to say, "Oh, really? I always assumed they were real." It's amazing that even today, in 2017 (though the film is 2011) you can see real Pygmies in Africa, living as they have for millennia. This documentary takes you there, and you can see they aren't a myth, just shorter family members still living it 'old school' in the jungle. I thought it was fascinating. The direction gives you a real "you are there" feel. You get to learn what you can, while you can, and then you have to leave.

He kills a dog in the film? I don't even remember that. I guess I don't remember much from this film... making me wonder if I really ever saw the whole thing...

I didn't know they made a remake of Flatliners, but yes, the original was really well made! I saw it at the theatre. Plot wise, it's tricky to decide where you're going to end up, the original went to spooky horror, which was OK. Not quite as grand as Brainstorm, but entertaining nonetheless.

Flatliners (2017)

Goddamn this was bad. Full disclosure: I've never seen the original, so I can't compare...but fuck me, what an awful movie. Clichéd, afterschool special nonsense. Lame jump scares, generic set pieces and absolutely no reason to care about anything that's happening.

All the characters are cardboard cutouts, none of them ever feel like real people - the cast isn't terrible, but they're fighting an uphill battle against a godawful script.

Ugh. This is the worst thing I've seen in theaters in years, and I didn't even have high expectations.

Sorry you had to see that, Return! I'll definitely skip it.

Good news is, I recommend the original Flatliners. I thought the build up was really well done (3/4ths of the film). It's really what the film is about. The conclusion was what it was... not bad or good... kinda interesting choice. Love to hear what you think of the original. I can pretty much guarantee you'd be entertained. I knew what the film was about before I saw it, so seeing the re-make probably wouldn't be a significant spoiler.
