On a Dark Horse they rode...
I'd say the front-runner is probably THE WALKING DEAD (Image Comics), but THE GOOD (Dark Horse) and HELLBOY(Dark Horse) are also very good.
An great under-rated mini-series is THE DEVIL'S FOOTPRINTS (Dark Horse). Other notable horror comics include 30 DAYS OF NIGHT (IDW) and, of course, www.NightmareWorld.com. :p Best wishes, Aaron Weisbrod

Preacher is without a doubt the coolest comic book that exists.
(The series is done now. I think there were between 66-70 issues but I have the TPBs so I'm not positive. Anyways, read it start to finish and you will not be disappointed. Sin City is a close 2nd. Those 2 are both light years ahead of anything else in my eyes.

The Second Stage Turbine Blade is awesome. Its a sci-fi comic written by the frontman of the band Coheed and Cambria. Really weird, stuff, lots of blood. Yum.
