What Does Horror Mean to the Average Person

I've been thinking about this question for a while now. What does Horror mean to the average person? I'm not talking about the the guy who likes to watch old Horror movies on VHS because it makes it feel more "real". I'm talking about the average guy or girl on the street.

Stepping outside of myself to see what could be attractive to others.

Sorry, Creed, I don't think folks understand what you're asking. If you're still really curious, you need to be very specific about what you're asking.

Yeah, I don't really get what you're asking either...

If you're not a horror fan, horror means nothing to you... unless you're one of those people who are offended by it.

What it means to be a horror fan? That you like horror movies...

Like Sculpt said, you have to be a bit more specific.

The people I know who will watch a horror movie if it's on TV but are not really fans, well, I don't really think they give the horror genre much thought. The only thing I'll say is that I think they are less forgiving if the movie isn't very good, because the fact that it IS a horror movie in itself doesn't matter to them - unlike how it is with us horror fans, who are often willing to give questionable movies a chance.

I've spoken with workmates and for them horror equates to gore/slasher movies. A lot of them mention the Saw movies, Scream etc.

While there are some good horrors that involve blood and guts, but more often these types of movies are just anatomy lessons.

I prefer subtlety in the horror genre. Movies like The Haunting, Juon, The Fourth Kind.

I hope this is the kind of thing you were looking for. :)
