Guardians of the Galaxy

There are literally thousands of characters in the Marvel superhero universe and in recent years it's seemed as though every single one of them is being considered for a film treatment.

Since 2008, when Iron Man first dropped into theaters, there has been discussions about movies for Dr. Strange, The Black Panther, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and more.

So why not make a Guardians of the Galaxy movie?

As first suggested in an interview with Marvel President Kevin Feige last year, a film about the superhero team is currently in development over at Marvel Studios, according to Twitch.

According to the site's sources, the project is now in "active development," though the article doesn't make mention of a script or a screenwriter. The original incarnation was set in the 31st century, where the Guardians of the Galaxy were the last remaining members of their individual species and fought against Badoon, a group of aliens dedicated to taking over our solar system.

The group was first created in 1969 but brought back and reinvented in 2008 with a completely new cast of characters.

Good to hear that Marvel is really digging in and mining everything they have for potential movie ideas, but it's doubtful that this is the best move they can make. Say what you will about Dr. Strange being a complete unknown to those that never read comics, but at least he could potentially fit in with the Marvel's cinematic continuity while the Guardians of the Galaxy would likely require quite a bit of explanation and exposition.

Basically, Guardians of the Galaxy is the movie Marvel Studios should make if in 2021 people are still clamoring for comic book movies and they know they have a completely captive audience.

Still, who knows what Time will tell? Wait and see.

Chris Pratt Getting ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Lead

Quote:
After a long search, Marvel Studios has found its lead for its next big superhero franchise, the James Gunn-directed Guardians Of The Galaxy. I hear the role will go to Chris Pratt, the Moneyball star who bulked up and played one of the hero Navy SEALs in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty. The role is Star-Lord, the Guardians leader who is the offspring of a human mother and an alien father. A puffier Pratt plays Andy Dwyer on the NBC series Parks And Recreation.

An August 1, 2014 release date for the pic is planned.

Guardians Of The Galaxy first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1969 but didn’t get its own series until the 1990s. Star-Lord (real name Peter Quill) leads a group of alien superheros who team to protect the solar system from an evil alien race. The good guys are from the future, and another dimension. In the comics, the Guardians worked with The Avengers, so there should be opportunities to use Marvel’s big franchises to help launch the new one.

Benicio del Toro Joins Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy

Quote:
Marvel continues to add some interesting acting clout to its space-set superhero fantasy “Guardians of the Galaxy,” with Benicio Del Toro the latest thesp to join the growing cast.

The character Del Toro would play has not yet to be revealed.

Like most actors that sign up to star in Marvel’s films, Del Toro’s deal will involve multiple films.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Glenn Close, John C. Reilly and Dave Bautista also star, while “Doctor Who’s” Karen Gillan recently signed on to play a female villain.

James Gunn (“Super”) is directing “Guardians,” which Disney will release on Aug. 1, 2014.

Guardians” revolves around a U.S pilot who bands with a group of ex-cons from other planets after he’s thrust in the middle of a universal conflict. Marvel is positioning the film as its own “Star Wars.”
