Crank 2

April 19, 2008

Lakeshore Entertainment has found its leading lady and villain for sequel “Crank 2: High Voltage,” starring Jason Statham as hit man Chev Chelios.

Amy Smart will reprise her role as Chelios’ girlfriend and Clifton Collins Jr. will play his nemesis.

Bai Ling also is joining the cast, along with Dwight Yoakam and Efren Ramirez, who are both returning from the original.

In “Crank 2,” Chelios faces a mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.

Filming begins April 28 in Los Angeles on the pic, which Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor wrote and will direct.

Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Skip Williamson and Richard Wright produce.

Lionsgate will handle North American distribution, while Lakeshore has international.

Crank,” released in 2006, grossed $42 million worldwide.

Smart stars in the CBS pilot “The Meant-to-Bes” and will next be seen in Fox’s thriller/horror pic “Mirrors” opposite Kiefer Sutherland.

Collins next stars in indie feature “The Perfect Game,” Mandate’s “Horsemen” and J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” prequel for Paramount.

i think with a movie like that - they can get away with anything to justify a return

just like wrestlers and comic book heroes.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but didn't he blink or something at the end?

And yes, he died at the end.

C'mon, you didn't laugh once? didn't think the visual & sound effects (talking walls/tripping out...etc) were interesting? Didn't think the situation was completely ridiculous and made you enjoy it, just because?
Guy getting his hand cleavered off and taunting his brother about it?
It was FUNNY.
The movie went from 1-100 and stayed there within the first 5 seconds, for me, this made the movie a unique experience.
See movies like this, Slither, Shoot 'em up, are never going to win awards for their storyline, acting, or direction...but IMO I think that maybe some people go in expecting more than a film like this could really ever offer, all things considered.
I mean hey...they thought fit to sequel a certain d&d movie that I'm pretty sure was a LOT worse than crank...now that there, deserves the "suck" title.
But hey, just my opinion there - I like crazy movies.

A sequel though...well...I've seen the basic plot is venturing into pretty fantastic territory...I'll see it but refrain from comment until I have.

i'm correcting you - you're wrong - it was a fun movie :)

i thought it achieved exactly what it set out to do .. outspeed speed.
absolutely not to be taken seriously - but it was still a much smarter film just under the surface than it appeared to be if you weren't paying attention.

the pacing was perfect - the movie stayed true to it's goal - was relentless... the performances were good - and they managed to break some new ground in an action film which says a lot. (the chinatown sex scene was priceless)

i'm all for a sequel to any movie if it's done right.

This is someplace we have always differed:

crank was style over substance. I am bored with the glitzy criminal underworld in movies like this where the drug lords are white 25 year olds with women in fish tanks and armies of black and hispanic underlings that work for them unquestioningly.

But hey, i like fantasy, which i guess is no less unrealistic, just different.

i knew the style/substance discussion would come up :)

and i did like the style of this film .. but i also liked the grit.

i dont like a lot of what you're talking about - movies like Domino drove me nuts - hyper connetic edits and John Woo wannabe slow-mo shots ..

but in Crank i dug it, ... just like i also enjoyed Shoot 'em Up and Running Scared.
