My Fated Mistress
Poem by, Richard Laughter.
Lonely and jaded my fated mistress. Condemned to the gallows, her sorrows are listless. Pacing and waiting for our annual visit, down through the briers and past the petaled thicket. Gasping my name as memories revisit, the moments of last that bring me to fidget. I close my eyes and feel hands, so frigid, grasping my heart with bones, so rigid, I fall to my knees and wheeze her name, Bridget. My eyes open wide as they meet with two sockets, and dangling from her neck, a once gifted locket. Opening it up, my heart froze at the sight of the image, of me in my grave with my fated mistress. |
