Bad Taste (1987). Peter Jackson, who went on to direct the Lord of the Rings trilogy, splats onto the scene with this extremely low-budget debut of a sickening gore-fest. At first glance, the first thing that comes to mind is "you've got to be kidding." But then the charm of such an endeavor comes bursting through which such aplomb that it literally coats the viewer with dripping sense of awe. The acting is goofy and over the top, but hey, most of these guys were weekend actors who were only in it for the fun. Many of the props and devices were actually made by Peter himself in his parent's garage. The cinematography is the one thing that reeks of professionalism. With a thread of a story, minimal plot, and such a paucity of actors that many are killed more than once throughout, it is hard to believe that this flick could be so much fun. Believe it! Ashe.
