Meat Cleaver Attack

Dog-Walker Held In Cleaver Attack

London - A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a meat cleaver attack which almost severed the victim's arm, police have said.

The 39-year-old man was attacked after he asked two dog walkers to control their animals in a well-to-do west London suburb.

His left arm was almost severed at the elbow and he lost three fingers as a result of the frenzied attack in Jeddo Road, Shepherd's Bush, at 8.30pm on Tuesday.

The victim, who lives in the area, was walking home when he saw the men and their dogs, which began biting his ankles.

He shouted at the pair to put the dogs - a Great Dane and a Staffordshire terrier - on the lead. They then followed him into nearby Kinnear Road, where they set the animals on him.

One also produced the meat cleaver and began hacking at him with it, inflicting deep head wounds.

Three of the victim's fingers were severed and one had to be amputated. His wedding and middle fingers were stitched back, but they will probably also be amputated. Wounds to the rear of his legs have also caused severe tendon damage.

Scotland Yard said today that they had arrested a man early this morning in connection with the attack, which is being treated as attempted murder.

"Early this morning officers from the Hammersmith and Fulham Crime Operations Group attended an address in the Shepherds Bush area and arrested a 23-year-old man," said the spokesman.

"He was taken to a west London police station where he remains in custody."
