Poor Pretty Eddie (1975)

This is one of the most amazing pieces of 70s exploitation I've ever seen. A wonderfully twisted piece of low budget filmmaking starring Leslie Uggams as a singer who gets stranded in Hicksville and held captive by a deranged group of hillbillies including Shelly Winters, Ted Cassidy, Slim Pickens and Dub Taylor.

Like most exploitation films, has to be seen to be believed.

Never Heard of that - i must track it down..

The Killing by Kubrick - absolutely perfect caper film. A much see for all. Great performance by Sterling hayden and total stand out bit part by the always nuts Timothy Carey....

The non linear narrative must have been really ground breaking for its time..

I recommend you do. It's right up your alley. It's terrible, of course, but inside that terribleness there's a sleazy sublimity that is wonderous to behold.

It's on DVD- I checked.

Bob le flambeur AKA Bob the gambler (1956). The first of some great gangster flicks by Melville, this one might be a tad slow in action but makes up for it in other ways. This flick moves with Bob between elegance and seediness, both of which he is very comfortable. Though he is a hood, he has morals standards and longs for the good old days before the war came in and ruined gangsterism. Of course, a good caper is on the horizon, and with completely unforseen results. And keep a look out for the stunning Isabelle Corey; what a looker. All in all, another wonderful Melville addition. Ashe.

Silent Hill (2006). i knew this was based on a video game going in, and that helped to make this a decent little flick watchable. Unfortunately, the rather forced acting almost killed it. The story was decent enough, and the overall theme was apparently very true to the game itself. Thankfully, this flick was resurrected by the visuals. The monsters were great, and the ending pretty bloody awesome. Overall a decent watch, and if'n yer into the game i'd bet you'd love it. Ashe.

I just wathed HOUSE OF THE DEVIL on a special preview on On Demand last night, because I heard it was like 80's horror and 70's exploitation movie, but, uh, things happen in those movies. I'm just saying, find me a good 80's horror movie that waits over an hour for the main character to have anything at all happen to her.

Street Fight, a documentary about the 2002 Newark, NJ, mayor’s race in which Corey Booker lost the first time (he won the next one). A fascinating view of how machine politics can pull the wool over so many people’s eyes and can be used to steal elections.
