Marathon of NOES continues with The Dream Child. Quite liked the way they tried out new things with the dreamscape - it was...fresh and had a visual charm. And I appreciate that they were trying out a new idea rather than rehashing the same plot just to get some cheap kills...just a shame they didn't quite pull it off. Overall, it's an unnecessary, fairly poor film, but at least it tried hard.

Just a side note - I always LOVE the NOES posters!

"Apollo 18" (2011)

Plot: IMDB
Decades-old found footage from NASA's abandoned Apollo 18 mission, where two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition, reveals the reason the U.S. has never returned to the moon.

Phantom's Review: Bad, really bad. The kind of bad that when the film is over you get up and open the doors to let the stink out. Skip it at all costs.

The Woman in Black (2012) A solid 8/10

Lots and lots of complaining going on about plot holes and bad acting, and almost 100% of it is just people who didn't understand it, which is fine by me. It's a solid movie that uses atmosphere, and isn't too heavy on cheap scares (notice I said 'not TOO heavy')

Oh, and the scenery is incredible.

Absentia (2011)

A pretty slow burn but a very decent & interesting low budget-indie horror about the people who gets missing without a trace...! Though it heavily relied on characters along with the emotional contents of love, loss & then start over but I really liked way how they blend an emotionally moving theme (like losing the loved one & finally deciding to declare 'dead in absentia') with a creepy horror element. The small & amateur cast did a good job with the story.

Recommended.

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

The weakest of the three films but still enjoyable.

Perfect summation, couldn't have said it better. I watched this last night and was drawn in by the story and LOL at the funny bits (everything Seth Rogan said, virtually).

Really worth watching!

The Big Year

Really good. I usually watch more crude low brow comedies so this was a bit of a gamble for me but it paid off. Probably the best chemistry between a cast I've seen in a long time.

You hit the nail on the head with Harold and Kumar, imo. I just finished it and did enjoy it. It'll probably be a Christmas movie staple during the holidays from now on.

I was disappointed with The Big Year. I felt it was a complete waste of comedic talent.

No way. The film was subtle and I dug how the cast didn't rely on their usual typecasting to pull off a great film. It was all class IMO.

Last horror I saw was "Woman in Black" (think that's the name?) Anyway, hearing mixed reviews. Personally, I loved it. I would rate 8 out of 10.

The Woman in Black (2012)

Gotta say I was kind of disappointed with this. It had a few innovative scare scenes and some really nice creep-out moments, a fantastic setting, and some decent camerawork. But overall it felt mostly clichéd; a slight story, not-that-great performances, and plenty of worn-out genre set-pieces. Overall, it was a fun one-time watch, but for me it's not much more than that.
