McCammon

Is anyone on here into Robert R. McCammon? I think he's a brilliant horror writer. Check out They Thirst and Blue World. Those are my favorites.

McCammon

Oh, you just had to get me started, didn't you, Avengersoul? :)

I'm a *huge* McCammon fan. He was one of the best, and I've really missed him. If I could be half the writer McCammon was when he was really churning stuff out on a regular basis, I would die a happy man.

Did you know he has a new one out? Non-horror, but then good writing transcends genre, IMO. Check it out -- I haven't read it yet, but folks are saying it's his best ever. It's called SPEAKS THE NIGHTBIRD.

My favorite McCammon novel, strangely enough, was BOY'S LIFE. Believe it or not, it wasn't horror, but a sort of coming-of-age/suspense tale in the vein of King's "The Body" (but on a much more epic scale).

Not only is BOY'S LIFE my favorite McCammon novel, but if I had to pick just one favorite novel of all time, this would be it. A masterpiece. I re-read it at least once every couple of years, and to this day it is the only book that has ever made me cry . . . .

And I'm not ashamed to admit that. Man, what a book! :)

McCammon

Sorry to hog the thread, but I forgot to mention . . . .

You're right -- BLUE WORLD is an absolute classic. Next to Ed Gorman's MOONCHASERS, it may be my favorite single-author collection ever. Fantastic . . . .

Blue World and King's Night Shift are my favorite short story collections.

Sounds like I really need to read Boy's Life. I always passed on it cuz it didn't sound horror enough. But I'm down with the coming of age stuff.

BOY'S LIFE

Me again!

Trust me, man . . . I did the same thing for several years. But it is, quite simply, one of the most beautiful books you ever read. You will not be able to put it down, I guarantee you.

And there's enough "dark" stuff -- not quite horror, but still quite fascinating -- to keep horror fans reading.

Trust me. Give it a chance.

I saw Speaks the Nightbird at my local bookstore. It looks interesting. I also went ahead and bought Boy's Life. Hopefully I can start reading it soon.

BOY'S LIFE

Can't wait to hear what you think!

I'm jealous . . . I'd love to have those feeling back of reading it for the first time. :)

Enjoy -- lemme know!

Hopefully I'll be thanking you for recommending it. It's McCammon though so I'm in good hands.

I used to own They Thirst too and ended up losing it during a move. Now I have to chance buying a copy on Ebay :(

Its kind of nice that there are people here who know who McCammon is - usually I get blank stares when I post his works.
