my x-box broke !

just a few months after we won the damn thing it broke ..

one day it sinply wouldnt power up .. the eject button was flashing green and red and i had to hit eject several times before i could get the disc out.
when i took it out of the wall unit and turned it over i could hear rattling.

so i found the documentation and saw that it had a 3 month warrantee..
expired. then it says the average price of fixing them is about 100$
(you can get a new one for $125 or there abouts)

so i called the service anyway - and wouldnt you know - somehow it had a 1 year warrantee on it .. they sent me a box to ship it back in and in about a week i should have a brand new one back .. pretty fortunate as i have over 30 games for it now.

oh .. and the warrantee expires THIS MONTH.

so .. are all of these things so fragile ? it wasnt touched - and barely played ..

That's some bullshit...one, that it broke so soon (As though Microsoft couldn't afford better quality parts), and that it only had a 3 month warranty...I dunno what that's about...but seems like that got fixed.
Of course it could've been a dud unit, I've seen ones live a lot past that age...
I suggest in future shopping at EB (Electronics Boutique), they're pretty much worldwide yeah?
I think most shops have a 1 year instore warranty given with their consoles, which you can extend by a year if you throw a few more dollars on it. Always great service, and you can take back pretty much anything you don't like within a week....I hope you've got one around you for future reference.

Also, keep the area around the x-box VERY dust free...they suck up dust like crazy...they can overheat, and stuff can like, start not working.

Sounds like you did ok all the same though.

yep, we have EB games here - thats where i get all the used games - and some have used DVDs now too ..

there is an offer of a 2 year warrantee for 40$ .. seeing as how i got the game for free in the 1st place this might be a sensible way to buy some piece of mind

It's funny really. I've had to return an XBox (old disc drive error MS made, wouldn't read discs), PS2, and my 360 because of bugs and problems with manufacturing the buggers. As these consoles get more and more advanced expect more and more problems. At least we don't have to worry about a non-compatible graphics card or conflicting drivers ;) . My younger brother works at GameStop, a division of EB Games. The used DVDs they usually get are in stacks and still wrapped with, often times, multiple copies of the same movie being turned in. The theives, I mean customers, then get store credit for all of them and the movies get unwrapped and sold.

you can get a modded xbox for around $100 now. I've never had any problems with the regular xbox. I have a modded one now and its never gave me any problems. I heard alot of people having problems with the 360. I want to get one but I keep seeing so many problems with them it makes me wonder if I should just wait for the ps3 and see how that goes over.

I think generally, systems with cd/dvd tech are so much more prone to overheating and breaking due to their moving parts.
Cart consoles always lasted WAY longer.

The PS3 will be just as bad most likely. The problems were just with the 360s near launch.
