I'm trying to find a movie of which I saw a small part about 25 years ago.

This is what I remember happening in the film:

A lonely man is living in a penthouse apartment. He plays imaginary chess with a statue in his living room. The world is swarming with some kind of living dead who come to the house in night. The man grabs his machine gun and starts shooting at the dead. The dead talk they could destroy the man by fire.
