I'm still waiting for the Boy to pop the question (I gave him until 2013), then for us to get hitched, buy a house, and THEN we'll start the process.
And to Villain as well-I was adopted after spending a couple of very young years in care so I know exactly how horrendous it is for kids stuck in a care hostel. Luckile I was saved from the UK care system so if there is any way for me to realistically do that myself for some unfortunate kid then when the required circumstances emerge I will do it.

I have no idea how it works in the US but here in the UK it is an extremely long and arduous process. More often than not you have to foster children first and after you help a few if you have a foster kid for a very long time then you can go through the courts and present your case to adopt. But bear in mind that you will have a lot of assessments and trials with social services.

It's really sad that the complex system of adoption puts most people off so Chronogrl though I don't know how the adoption process works in the UKSI'm sure its completely frustrating, energy sapping, tremendously difficult but in the long term rewarding.

Thanks villain-its definitely being planned in the long term, I've got quite a lot of stuff to sort out in my life first. UK Social services don't leave any stone unturned so you need to prepare a long time before you begin the process.

Spent Saturday in DC, visited the Crime & Punishment Museum and the Museum of American History (where they have the ruby slippers, Eddie Van Halen's guitar, and other such stuff), and spent Sunday at Mt. Vernon (George Washington's home) in VA. This picture is taken from the front of the house (the house is behind the person taking the picture) with a spectacular view of the Potomac River behind me. It definitely wouldn't suck to wake up to that view every morning!
